having seen this car in person, I think that car is hideous, and I'd take an A3 over it, but that's just me. I haven't seen a version with a trunk, so maybe the back end will look better, but the squared off nose is really ugly.

The A3 is a great looking hatch (or wagon?). The DSG tranny is nice, but the main advantage is (I'm guessing) the US bound 1 series bimmer will have RWD. That may be enough to sway my decision, especially if it has a nice inline 6 cyl, and hopefully not a 140HP 4 banger.

Here is video footage of the 1 coupe/conv. that is coming.

It would be unheard of for them to bring a car that looks almost identical to the current 1 series a year from now. I cant wait!

It's not a bad-looking car. I'd get one but I'm sure I won't find one at that price. Most will be optioned up at probably $34-35K. I've seen them in person and while the driving dynamics are of BMW quality, the interior fit/finish are not.

Hmm, very interesting, so they are bringing the 1 series over here. I wonder if that validates an article that Winding Roadwrote earlier this month that says that the 1-series will be initially released only with the 3.0 liter twin turbo I-6 from the 335i, to be followed up later on with the N/A 3.0 I-6 from the 330i.
A 300-hp BMW for under $30k? Is that possible? If so it would be one hell of a deal.

^I expect the interior fit an finish to be similar to the X3- which is to say a step down from the rest of BMWs line, but still above par.
The problem with this (and the A3) is that once you check a few option boxes you can get well into the $30k range where the competition is thick.
Still, a 130i or better yet 135i would be very tempting, could you imagine the tt-6 cylinder in this thing? Yes please!
As for styling, it was hard to take when it first came out several years ago, but now as the rest of the BMW model line has filled in around it, it is looking quite good IMO.
