Default is this bad for your tranny?

i've recently developed the habit of slipping the shifter out of gear and into neutral without disengaging the clutch while coming to stops. is this bad for the tranny?? i wouldn't imagine that it would be, but if it is then i'll cease my habit.

So, you are saying that you push in the clutch, pop the transmission into neutral, and then sit at the light with your foot on the clutch until it turns green, upon which you slide the shifter back into first and off you go?

It's not a big deal, but leaving the clutch engaged at the light wears out the throw-out bearing. I clutch in, pop to neutral, disengage clutch and sit at the red light. When it turns green, I push the clutch in, go to first gear, and off I go. I have made it a habit to stay off the clutch as much as possible. I've never had clutch issues in any of my cars. The more you ride the clutch, the quicker it will wear out.

I do exactly the same thing. The s2k is my first manual transmission car. I recently replaced my clutch too. My car had almost 80k on it.

No...i think he is saying he takes the car out of gear without pushing the clutch in.

its really easy to do on my truck so sometimes i do it without even trying, but I never do on my S.... I'm really not sure if its bad for it, i honestly dont think so.

Now keeping the clutch pushed in is a biggggg pet peeve of mine

No problem... you can only do it when there is no load and it is the same movement as if you used the clutch.

I think he's asking if pulling the shifter into neutral without pushing the clutch pedal in.

I know it is possible but I see no reason of doing it. Why would you do it in the first place? You'll end up pushing the clutch to go into another gear anyways.
