BMW Z4
Who has driven the z4 and likes it? I drove a Z4 with 3.0 si with sports package. The one you can turn on and turn off. I was very impressed with the ride.
Does anyone else have experience?

i've driven the older 3.0. it's an okay car. i hated the vague overboosted steering, plus there seems to be a split second lag in steering and suspension response on the car. it does not feel as direct and connected to the driver as the S2K.
If it wasn't for Chris Bangle, I would never have bought a Honda...
The Z4 has decent road manners, is okay to drive, and has a great engine, but the smg is know to act up and the styling is ugly imo. For the money, I'd rather have a slightly used Boxster S or an S2000.

supposedly they used a conventional hydrolic type power steering system instead of the crappy electric ones used in the regular Z4s.
I don't like the steering because it TOO heavy. BMW is hit and miss on their power steering systems. The electric system is too light and twitchy and the E46 based rack/pinion systems for the M's feel too bulky.

I bought a used 2003 Z4 for my father a couple of months ago.
I had never driven a Z4 before I found that car, so I was looking for Miatas, S2000s, used Boxsters, etc. When I drove the Z4, I knew it was the right car for him. Perfect combination of sport and luxury, especially for a 60-year-old.
But, what I was surprised at was how much _I_ liked the car. That silky smooth engine, great chassis... I even liked the shifter (which most hate).
That started an obsession with the new M Roadster for myself, which has yet to come to fruition. Can't decide between the M and a Boxster S. One you have to grab by the scruff of the neck and manhandle (M), one is a finesse car (Boxster).
So, what did I do? Just bought a used 99 E36 M3 last week, which is a nice introduction to BMW M cars. I'm going to "work my way up" to an MZ4.
