Bought the Evo IX MR
In a previous thread, I talked about trying to decide on whether to buy a 2006 Evo IX MR.
Well, I bought it. Love it. Spent the weekend doing some heavy cleaning (pulling wheels) & changing fluids & filters. Still need to align it, though.
It's a really awesome car. So different from the X--so much more "raw". You really feel like you're driving a special car.

I've driven both and owned a VIII/IX and found them to be very very similar. The difference people perceive is the slightly slower steering rack on the X, more sound deadening and flatter power band. These attributes as well as a few other things like the IX's more explosive nature at peak torque give people the impression that the IX is "raw" which to me came out to be "less refined" in every imaginable way.
With that said I think X's are superior cars after owning the previous generation Evo.

Guess I prefer raw over refined.
