It will sell at MSRP for about 6 months then they will start discounting it. Wouldn't be surprised if in about a year or two it will be MSRP -$10K/$12K. But it is a Porsche, so that will basically pay for the options.

I know that the prestige of owning a P car comes with a hefty price....but $70k? Seems excessive.

I actually went and test-drove the base Cayenne V6 and was really let down. It was like a $50k version of my $12k first car, a 1994 Ford Explorer. No real power, no upgrades, just leather seats, a fresh new-car smell and a bright 'n shiny Porsche logo on the outside.
It's really unfair to judge the Cayenne based on driving the base 6 car. The S and from what I see the GTS especially are far different.

The $70K sounds right in line to me. In fact, the S trim goes for $65K easily, so the jump to $70 seems reasonable.

Of course, "reasonable" carries with it lots of assumptions...

I just can't grasp the concept of a high performance SUV.

Whats the point of buying a $70k porsche SUV to drive on a paved road 99.9% of the time, other than to show that you have more money than brains? There are far better performing vehicles for that money.

In some cases it's useful. If you often have to carry stuff that wouldn't fit into the trunk of a normal passenger vehicle and still enjoy driving, a performance SUV would be the way to go. It's one of the best handling vehicles capable of carrying cargo.

That is what the Audi sport wagon is designed to do, not SUV.

And BMW wagon too if they ever brought it over here.

But depending on the level of brains you start out with, that's not a bad position to be in.

After seeing the commercial I was REALLY interested. After seeing the base price ($70k) I couldn't really care less.

For that amount, I'll take an MDX (40k) and an S2000(30k).
LOL, I don't think the typical Cayenne prospect is agonizing over a Cayenne or an MDX and S2000.

Yes, it's expensive, but since when has Porsche been a value brand? One of my friends has a Cayenne Turbo, and it's truly impressive...way better driving experience than any other truck or SUV I've ever experienced. He takes it off-road every day on construction sites, and has hauled his cars to the track w/ it. I don't think he worries about what better performing vehicles he could get for the money, as he has a multi-million $ car collection including some of the best performing production cars ever.

I'd like the idea of buying a highly depreciated used one cheap, but I can't imagine buying such a gas guzzler. I'm holding out hope for a 30 mpg Ridgeline diesel.
