I bought an 06 1000rr all black on March 28th 07.

I got it for 10,300 OTD.

Some people posting over at 1000rr.net are grabbing them for 9,000 OTD!!!\

I am totally in love with this bike. Its my second bike and its completely tame until you let go of its leash. It handles just as well as the 600s I ride with and will COMPLETELY obliterate them in a straight line.

Dont pay attention to all the 1/4 mile times and such. None of us can replicate them and I really think they just take an average of a bunch of runs anyways.. There are too many factors to be considered.

All things said,

I LOVE my new 1000rr and have no regretted it for a second. Amazingly refined and user friendly bike with a very linear power delivery.

Likewise I'm sure the '05 owners were kicking themselves then the '06 came out, and I'm sure the the 954 owners were doing the same when the 1000RR came out. And no doubt there will be some sad '09 owners when the '10 comes out... It's nothing I'm worried about, personally.
woops i'm thinking wrong years. its the 08 1000rr that will be redesigned not the 07....thats what i was baseing my comment on thinking the 07 was totally redesigned....

saying it handles as well as the 600's is completely false. or your just riding with people who suck horriblly at riding. stock 600rr will out handle a 1000rr all day long. both my 05 and 06 R6's out handle my 07 R1. I complety obliterate liter bike riders like you on my 600's both on and off the track in turns. and yes the average joe blow rider can't match 1/4 mile times but saying none of us can replicate them is just ignorent. I have matched both my R6's to claimed times at the strip. havn't taken my R1 yet.

Im not talking about going 100% around a damn track man. Im talking about people making it seem like a liter bike cannot keep up with 600s when things get alittle fast in the twisties. THAT is not so.

I know for a fact that 600s DO and WILL outhandle 1000s in a full out 100% track environment. I was referring to a day out with your buddies.. you wont get left behind by 600s if your riding sanely.

I was trying to tell him that if hes starting out on his first liter bike to not worry about the 1/4 mile times. Chances are that he nor his friends will be able to really replicate the magazine 1/4 mile times. The point is, it wont really matter if his buddies gixxer 1000 is a couple tenths faster in a straight line. It all goes out the window once a bend comes.

Good for you if you can replicate the R6 1/4 times.

I'm not getting a bike so that I can dominate other rides is whatever category, be it 1320ft times, track times, longest wheelie, most bling, blah blah blah. I'm just looking for something that's eminently enjoyable to ride.

This is true almost 100% of times. When someone with a 1000 rides with us in the canyons, they get left in turns and then they use all the HP just to catch up in the straights. Then they're braking with a death grip before the turns, while the 600's just wind down a little and drop in for the turn. And the cycle repeats itself.

______________

The reason why 1000's can't handle as well as 600's is due the momentum caused by the engine. Basically a bigger engine and HP wants the keep the bike upright more, and you're gonna be running bigger tires. This makes it harder to throw the bike from side to side. Also it's harder to accelerate while leaned over, because the bike wants to stand up more. A more powerful engine also makes it harder to open/close throttle smoothly while leaned over.

oh but your crazy thats not everyday real world driving. how many people go ride through twisties i mean come on my R1 will turn into the bike night parking lot just as well as my 600 some people just don't understand that in all situations 600's handle better then liter bikes. ALL DAY EVERYDAY.....

Did you read Elistans last post?

Im saying that a 1000 will do everything just as well as a 600 for what he wants it for. Period.

I dont believe he asked which one will outhandle the other or whats better for a trackday. He asked about a 2006 Honda 1000RR..

Simply love my '06 1000rr. Plenty a bike for a mid-tier rider & refined. Can run 'er up to 170+ if my heart desires and cruise 140 for miles. Agree, there are faster machines, but unless u r a pro, most joes won't see or know THAT much difference. Plus it is a Honda.
