...and I thought this thread had to do with Toyota going to bring back the Celica in the near future.

FYI , The normal Elise uses the the Yamaha 2zz also seen in the celica GT-S (and a few other cars). The Celica GT (considered base model) uses the 1zz that is ALSO being used in the Elise S. If you dont understand the analogy then you neeed some serious automotive schooling.

Not a good way to set up discussion.
Let me get this straight:
100 HP less than an S2k...
$4k more than an S2k?
About as practical as a Honda Goldwing?
As fun on a racetrack as a Spec. Miata?
Goody gumdrops, where do I sign up?

<yawn> this car doesn't peak my interest. Like Green Tea said, you could get 2-3K knocked off right off the bat for the full fledged Elise, why get the much lower powered version? Furthermore, if engien swap is in the future anyway, why not just wait for a used Elise?
All you people griping about the car are apparently missing the fact that Lotus has successfully sold lower-power variants of the Elise in Europe for years. Not all of the world is as power-hungry as the States.
Agreed that the thread was poorly titled. Misleading thread titles are lame.

Seriously though, I don't really have an issue with the lack of power, I just have an issue with the lack of power combined with a $36k pricetag. Maybe in Europe the cost is lower so it makes more sense. But the cost to Lotus to import and federalize this car in such small numbers doesn't make financial sense, especially given the low volume they would be selling.
Cut the price tag by $12k, and you'd have a winner. Until then, it's probably a good thing Lotus doesn't import these, as I can't imagine anyone silly enough to pay so much for so little.
Agreed on the thread title
