I think this move will help Chrysler to steal customers from the other American car companies.

If people wants to buy American (nothing wrong about that), this moves sweeten the deal. IMHO.

Why did the article also say that it was only good for the first 12,000 miles?

Its per year - someone did the math and is betting that Chrysler will come out ahead as long as mileage isn't excessive.

I don't think its going to steal customers, its going to get customers into its truck-heavy lineup. The article stated people are staying away because of gas prices, so this is a marketing angle to alleviate that issue. Otherwise, people would just be buying vehicles with higher mpg.

I'd be tempted with $.99/gallon.

Pretty hard not to. You're turning down a $2500 cash back offer for 36,000 miles off what probably will be an about $1 off per gallon gas coupon. They estimate (probably before hedging) that coupon to be worth $1300. It's not that much to hedge some oil futures.

I'm getting so sick of these gas related threads. If we were on www.bumzone.com or something I might understand, but a dollar extra in gas prices is a few hundred dollars a year.

I bet the kind of people that think gasoline is going to bankrupt them are the same people that would buy a chrysler so this may work well.

LOL! I am pretty sure if you could afford a Viper...you could afford current and future gas prices. Viper and SRTs are probably excluded.
