Comparative Advantage of NSX?

You're not only getting far superior handling and performance, you're getting a better looking car (inside and out), a car that is far more rare, a car that doesn't break down, and a car that will last for 100K miles without needing constant repairs.
I'd suggest you read my posts on this thread ENTIRELY to get the jist of why I would consider it.
Oh, and admit that no Camaro is going to touch an NSX.
An NSX comes nowhere close to the 1/4 mile potential of a Camaro (Z28/SS). Camaros, when highly modded, are 1/4 beasts. But that's what they are made for. An NSX is a refined exotic sports car. Its an overall good performer. On the track, it should tear Camaros up easily, due to the superior suspension and overall design. They are different cars in different classes made for different purposes. Don't compare Camaros to NSX's.
One more thought: Has anyone ever considered that the NSX may get its "exotic"(rare) badge because most people(including myself) are not willing to shell out 90k for this car considering all of the options available. I mean, more times than not, if you have 90k to spend on a car you could probably find the extra 20k to step up to something like a 996 Turbo dont you think????
You don't buy an NSX becuase of 1/4 mile times... And until you drive one you will never have a clue as to what the car is about or why someone would pay so much for something that "on paper" doesen't compare to a Mustang, Camaro etc...
You can get 0-60 in 4.7, 1/4 in 13.2, and 0.95g out of a Z28? Show me the car and I'll buy it....
Fastest I've seen is 0-60 in 5.2, 1/4 in 13.7 and 0.88g on skidpad.

I would argue that anyone who is claiming that the NSX is easy to drive fast has never really driven one. The NSX's track manners are actually quite nasty, it is a car that requires lots of concentration to drive fast -- and even then you are getting passed by joe blow in his stock Z06 -- and he has an extra 40 grand in his pocket to throw at you as he passes by.
NSX owners are a funny breed. As I mentioned above you can count on two hands the number of cheaper cars that offer superior performance for less money -- but they will never hear that.
Another car is faster? The NSX owner will point out how rare the NSX is.
Another car is cheaper? The NSX owner will point out how "reliable" the NSX is
Another car looks sexy? The NSX owner will point out the aluminum shell of the NSX.
They have counter arguments for everything -- and I guess after 11 years with the same damn car they should have a good list.
Dunno -- they are (rather were) nice cars -- but for 90k as I stated above the only thing "super" about the car these days is the price -- and that price is the only reason they are so rare.

Get your head out of the magazines. Stock LS1 Camaro's run very low 13's. However, the Camaro and NSX are not meant to be competitors.

You still haven't told me all the cars that blow the doors off of the NSX for less money. As for getting my head out of magazines, I've driven an NSX (two, actually) and been in the passenger seat racing it against other cars. so I know what it can and will beat. Camaros don't come close.
but have you driven a stock NSX yourself?
I mean, seriously, if we're talking about racing, an S2000 will probably beat (or come close) an NSX in AutoX since it is somewhat more nimble (less weight).
the NSX is great because ANYONE can drive it quickly (not race track fast, but just street fast).
That said, do you know of ANY race car that doesn't require a lot of concentration to race?
Keep in mind that I am being generous with the above statements and comparing the 97 and later manual cars as the previous iterations are well ..... slow.
5 cars that offer better performance for less money.
2001 + M coupe (Z3 based)
E46 M3
M5 (subjective, but hey it hauls 5 people)
Z06
Dodge Viper
This is only the American list (that I can think of off the top of my head) -- lest we need to get into the myriad of British cars (TVR's, Lotus's) and Japanese cars (RX-7 etc) that outperform the NSX for less money as well......
A guy totalled his NSX while trying (to no avail) to keep up w/ me in my S2000 on a curvy and hilly road. Dude let off the gas in a corner, the back end came around, and he hit a telephone pole. My car was planted and under control the whole time.
IMO, the NSX is a great car but a horrible value new. Of cars that are in or above it's perf. league, there are better choices when cost is a consideration:
- S2000
- Boxster S
- 911
- M3
- Z06
- 350Z (who knows?)
- SL55 AMG conv. (about the same price, but w/ 476hp and even more tq. - the first M-B that I've been really crazy about, and maybe my new dream car)
