Mike (Back-cracker) took a long ride in my NSX and is convinced that he needs to trade his Silver S2000 for a used NSX.

I really dig the '02 NSX in one of those pics, but why'd you have to post those at best avg. looking chicks in front of a riced-out NSX (neon & stickers? The owner s/b crucified!)? That positions it closer to the ricer crowd than the exotics that it deserves to be lumped in w/.

Got this from Acura.com. OK, I'd take an NSX if the price were comparable, but look how Chevy trumps the NSX:

- better gas mileage & lower weight (despite "old-fashioned" engine
- over twice the luggage capacity
- more interior room
- more std. features
- nearly double the tq. at a lower rpm
- very comparable residual values (but much better when you look @ $ depr. vs. %)
- no need to even discuss performance!

I think JB's points are well taken, especially when speaking to versatility. Most enthusiasts would be very lucky indeed to own a Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche 911 Turbo, etc... *IF* you could be there, or close, you would want a car that (1) was reliable, saving money and increasing available driving opportunities (2) versatile - able to track, autox, back road, and tour (3) looks good (4) is fun. Of all factors, #4 is the most important to me. One of the funnest cars I have owned was a Porsche 356 coupe (not even a fast (lol) one w/ 75 or 90 hp - mine was a Normal w/ 60 hp). But it was a kick to drive. Any pin head can compare #s and say, "This car is better than that car." If this was the end all of being a car enthusiast, then a computer could just rank the best car, and we'd all go buy it. I personally want a car that meets all 4 criteria above, esp. if it's going to $50K+ out of my pocket.
I love driving cars, and I've driven a lot of different cars. I've not been behind the wheel of an NSX. I have driven many, many Porsche across the model lines (mostly 911s). I have owned several Porsches. They fit the bill perfectly (plus criteria #5 - comfortably seating a 6'4" driver). The key is not what the numbers say, but what appeals to you. Fast cars are more fantasy than fact - a Civic can get you there.
Of course, if had an open budget (Jay Leno) I'd probably try to own the perfect car for every event - track cars, GT Tourers, 1/4 mile monsters, etc.

Cheers.

BTW - I perfectly agree w/ a prior post which cited the nature of this thread as being generally well-informed, well written, and not flame ridden.

NSX again???

S2Thizzle,
[QUOTE]
The engineering of the car: mid-engine = near 50/50 weight distribution (similar to S2K), the materials used and the scarcity of the car are what make the NSX so pricey. BTW, MSRP was $89k,
