Don't be so fast to say that those cars perform terribly on the track. Anyway the reason for luxo cars to be making big power is because back in the day the rich strutted their money-penis by buying luxo cars. Now a lot of cars have caught up to these in amenities, so how about those amenities plus some outrageous horse power to cure that SPS (Short Penis Syndrome)?

I don't really get the OP's post - Fox body Ford vs $60-130k cars? Why not compare it to less expensive sedans that will also kick its ass?
lmao we werent actually playing with whoever it was driving, they just kind of barreled past us. Most of these cars ARE 60k+ but I still find it pretty interesting

I agree about the importance of not endangering other people . However on the streets the only ones that should be at risk are the ones driving/riding. Aka get far away from traffic

This little incident reminded me of how much our current day automakers are striving to make outrageous power houses out of large luxury cars and 4 door sedans.
I stopped worrying myself with these types of comparisons when I went to a Lexus Ride-N-Drive event a few years back and drove a full-size, 4-door Lexus GS Hybrid with a faster 0-60 time than my S2000.

We love our RS4. It's comfy enough to road trip in, upscale enough to go out to dinner with friends, sure footed enough to make it through the worst Winter days (snow tires, FTW!), and fast enough to destroy uppity wanabe street ricers before we even get to posted speed limits.

It's having your cake and eating it too.

No it's not a sports car. But it's a great all-purpose car if you have room in the budget.

We just bought out our lease today. Get this, the black book value was $10k higher than our residual.

(Disclaimer: we have a fully track prepped SC'd S2000 as well, but I don't want to drive it around town)
Similar situation here. My M3 is an awesome street car, and I leave my MX-5 for track work.

Yeah it is sad, the days of budget racing are slowly coming to an end as the focus becomes more on how much can you spend vs. how much do you know.
I was talking to some oldtimer muscle car guys and they remember being able to build somewhat complete street cars with 1 month's pay check when they were growing up, now you're taking out a second mortgage to get anything competitive. Yeah yeah they can't handle blah blah point is they were able to have fun for minimal cash.
These days, even if you do everything yourself you're spending decent coin. 40 bucks for a radiator cap? 250 bucks of an intake? JDM yo.
And these modern cars, even if you can afford to buy one, you'll still spend alot keeping them up, 18"+ tires aren't cheap, the maitenance and repairs on euro cars makes me wanna cry, lol, etc etc.
What happened to those days where you could buy a DSM for 20K, drop another 2 K and have a monster.
I mean yeah, the STI and EVO folks are making great power and have plenty fast cars, but I seriously question the long term reliability on those cars.
/rant.

I could care less im done with my street racing days and these cars more than likely peform terribly at the track.
Didn't the CTS-V have a track record somewhere that was just recently broken by some super car? I wouldn't go as far as to say those cars perform terribly on the track, the IS-F has STIFF suspension and from what I hear on the clublexus forums, they're absolutely fun to tear up on the track. Same goes for the C63, M5, RS6, honestly ALL of those cars are more than capable on the track. The difference is, you can daily drive any of those opposed to something track oriented like the lotus it's a bit on the rough side to daily drive. (Not saying its not possible, it's just the cars listed are better candidates in my opinion) Just my 2 cents.

More monsters come in sheep's clothing these days and I do think the average car in America is faster than it used to be.

That's one of the difficulties against getting us back into smaller fuel efficient cars. Who wants to be the guy driving a 12 second 0-60 ecobox when you're surrounded in traffic by much faster cars and trucks? At least on my motorcycle I'm still faster than prevailing traffic (and the snot in the IS-F on my morning commute - I wouldn't mind but he jumps traffic to show off and then slows down. He's like an angry chicane when I'm driving my truck).
