Has cookie-cutter wheels? You are telling me you'd mod the crap outta the car but not the wheels?

relatively unproven reliability? In the states. IMO, after owning MANY GTi/Jettas... I can say that the reliability problem is GROSSLY exagerated. Just like Mac OSX lovers exaggerate PC problems by making it sound like every PC owner gets viruses on a daily basis.
Obviously, looks are an opinion.

Your mods weren't "modding the crap" outta the car. They were fairly moderate. And when you get 18" from the factory, why change?

This is a new motor. That's why it's unproven. It really isn't a true reflection of the 1.8T.

By the time you pay $27k for a TSX, then pay $4400 for a SC, then pay for installation- not to mention other crap like I/H/E and suspension mods- you easily have something a whole lot nicer. Like a TL, or a E90. At $35k it would be hard to justify a TSX.

Why do that when you can get a Jetta GLI and just mess with the turbo and the cheapness that comes with modding a turbo.
or Evo or WRX for that matter.

I used to hate the looks of these but I have seen a couple more subdued ones lately that have kind of grown on me. Interiors could be better.

if you were to purchase a tsx with the intent to supercharge it with this kit and have a "fast" car, you definitely wouldn't be getting much bang for the buck. but if you already own a tsx, love the way that it drives/looks but want some more power, it could make sense to purchase this kit instead of trading the car in at a loss for a tl.

I wouldn't consider adding a supercharged not "modding the crap" out of a car.

By the time you add a supercharger most people have already added such things as suspension/intake/exhaust/header... etc.

If we were talking about a reflash only or something then I'd understand.

Go read the C&D comparo for this month. G6, TSX, GLI, MS6, AccordV6 all sedans.

I think the results are dead on. I just wish they replaced the G6 with the Legacy GT and it would have placed the TSX at the bottom.

Its not grossly exaggerated. VW has been ranked in the bottom 3 for cars for 15 years. Right there with Kia. 3 of their cars are ranked the worst in their very large class's.

I've always said there

I was talking about the GLI, not the TSX. The GLI has 18" wheels from the factory - why would you change them out? The TSX has 17" - I don't know that I'd upsize them but they definitely need some real rubber. Add that and I wonder how close the braking, slalom, and skidpad numbers would be?

My point was that the mods mentioned for the GLI are fairly moderate, not hardcore (in your words, "just mess with the turbo and the cheapness that comes with modding a turbo"). I assumed you were talking about a reflash, exhaust, and maybe a bit more.

The TSX would be much more heavily modified in this guise and much more costly - it's too expensive to supercharge when you can get nearly as good results for less money with normally aspirated mods.

A friend of mine has a 1.8T GTI with a bunch of goodies. He dyno'd at just over 270 whp. He's got a few grand into the car - maybe $3K, all said and done. That's not quite the cost of a supercharger but he also did all the work himself, so that saved him quite a bit. However, it's unreliable as all get out. He's regularly had to pull it from regular use (his wife daily drives it) to fix and re-fix. I don't know why I'd expect anything else from the new GLI.
