I was talking about the GLI, not the TSX. The GLI has 18" wheels from the factory - why would you change them out? The TSX has 17" - I don't know that I'd upsize them but they definitely need some real rubber. Add that and I wonder how close the braking, slalom, and skidpad numbers would be?

My point was that the mods mentioned for the GLI are fairly moderate, not hardcore (in your words, "just mess with the turbo and the cheapness that comes with modding a turbo"). I assumed you were talking about a reflash, exhaust, and maybe a bit more.

The TSX would be much more heavily modified in this guise and much more costly - it's too expensive to supercharge when you can get nearly as good results for less money with normally aspirated mods.

A friend of mine has a 1.8T GTI with a bunch of goodies. He dyno'd at just over 270 whp. He's got a few grand into the car - maybe $3K, all said and done. That's not quite the cost of a supercharger but he also did all the work himself, so that saved him quite a bit. However, it's unreliable as all get out. He's regularly had to pull it from regular use (his wife daily drives it) to fix and re-fix. I don't know why I'd expect anything else from the new GLI.
If you modify the hell out of any car, it won't be reliable.

The Golf is consistently the best selling car on that continent...
No kidding -- everywhere. Polos too. What's more -- they generally come with a 1 year warranty. We have a 01 2.0 TDI Golf now with 12k kilometers. Not a single issue, that ****er sits for months without being used, fires right up every time and is a pleasure to drive.

17" wheels are standard on the GLI. The 18" wheels are an option, they come with more aggressive rubber. That really helped that Jetta in the C/D comparison.

TSX comes with really shitty tires, that's for sure.

[QUOTE=y2ks2k,Jan 12 2006, 04:21 PM] Its not grossly exaggerated. VW has been ranked in the bottom 3 for cars for 15 years. Right there with Kia. 3 of their cars are ranked the worst in their very large class's.

I've always said there

They are thin, the tires are not as wide as they could be, etc. I could think of a million reasons why I would change them. STi come with FORGED BBS wheels, yet they get swapped all the time. I didn't see the point of your statement.

I agree. Honda typically puts some non-performance loving tires on their cars.

Those were not my words, since I never said that.

I agree, but that's Comptech for you... Hopefully Jackson Racing will release a TSX blower for a lower price. Although, I agree, the TSX responds quite well to the right N/A mods.

Go read the C&D comparo for this month. G6, TSX, GLI, MS6, AccordV6 all sedans.

I think the results are dead on. I just wish they replaced the G6 with the Legacy GT and it would have placed the TSX at the bottom.
Umm, C/D basically said that the TSX was slower than the other cars, but they didn't care because it was still sweet to drive. They gave it a 10-best in the Sports Sedan category because it was based on subjective, fun-to-drive, instead of objective performance figures.

Christople, everyone on this board by now KNOWS that you don't like the TSX. But we don't care, so just knock off beating that dead horse. Could the TSX use more power? Absolutely. Would I spend $4k+ to bolt on a supercharger? Absolutely not, it's stupid and I'd buy a leftover e46 330i for $35k instead.

It pisses me off that every time the TSX comes up in a thread you start on your broken record shit about how the TSX sucks, everything else is better, "you shoulda bought a Hyundai" etc. You don't like it. I get it. Move on.
