a vette will never be an exotic - regardless of price, or performance, for that matter.
it's neither GM's mentality nor mandate.

what else is "exotic" about the nsx?
Neither. The only thing exotic about the NSX is the low volume, and that has a direct relationship with how much it costs versus how much it performs.
Once upon a time you might have been able to argue that the heavy use of aluminum added to this "exoticness" but two things now get in the way of that.
1. Many other cars use aluminium these days
2. Despite this heavy use of aluminium the NSX-T still manages to weigh more than a Z06 corvette.

I think the only American cars to hold the "exotic" title right now would be the Saleen S7 or the Mosler MT900.
As stated before, the Vette will never be considered exotic. There are too many of 'em. That said, I think GM could do a lot more to make it more "worldly" accepted as a somewhat exotic American sports car. Things like REALLY going balls out on the build quality. Chevy has the engine and suspension nailed, they just need to produce it like they love it.
I would personally consider the NSX a Japanese exotic, since there are so few of them, and since they are generally the most sought-after Japanese performance car.
