Default Is the Corvette safe?

This is not intended to be a flame session just a question.....

I was reading something on the internet the other week about vettes scoring VERY low on crash tests....and they have a history of scoring low in crash tests...is this true....

You might want to ask at:

www.corvetteforum.com

or

www.z06vette.com

or

www.nhtsa.gov to go right to the source of crash test info...

I am not a member of any of those forums..and I would hate to ask over there b/c I would be viewed as a troll....
I am just asking b/c I read that GM has keep the **bad** crash history of the vette from the public eyes..anyone know if this statement is true....

In 1980 I was hit in the drivers side of my 1964 Corvette Conv. by an International truck. I had heard all the horror stories about the danger of crashing a Corvette and I thought I was a dead man. I walked away from it with nothing more than a chipped bone in my left arm. The car was easy and fairly cheap to repair and it held up VERY well. Yes the fiberglass bodies will come apart in a crash on any Vette but they are made to do that and I do not feel that they are unsafe. After wrecking that old Corvette I've always felt that they were at least as safe as any other car in a crash. Maybe the fact that you can crash a new Corvette at 165mph makes it less safe than a car that won't go over 90mph but if I had a choose between crashing a Geo Metro at 90 or a Corvette at 90 I'd take my chances in the Vette. I'd really rather not crash.

I know the fibeglass won't hold up to well in a crash...but what about GM hiding the fact **IF ITS TRUE** that the vette performs poorly in crash

EVERY new car model line, sports car or not, MUST be crash tested to be certified for sale in N. America for "domestic" use. Trucks have slightly different standards but manufacterurs crash them the same anyways.

Do you have any idea how many components in N. American cars are NOT made in N. America? Do you have any idea how many "Japanese" cars are NOT made or assembled in Japan.
You need to live a lot longer than 15 years to make such "all encompassing" statements like the ones you've made in this thread.

What exactly do you consider a "Japanese" car? A ford probe has a Mazda engine in it, does that make it Japanese?
