I think that this is utter BS and should in no way be legal for the government to seize your car for "racing" I had a few friends who had their cars seized and they were arrested for street racing about a year ago in Charlotte... Way far away from the public in industrial complexes... I mean seriously, chicks on their cell phones and drunk drivers on public roads are a lot more of a danger than people driving fast on abandoned roads. Our governments have their priorities all mixed up. In Texas, you get a $1000 fine, your license suspended for a year and up to 6 months jail time... utter BS
I've had 2 friends killed by drunk drivers... none from street racing... to put it into perspective

I thought I read somewhere that at least one of the states crushing cars required that the car have stolen parts. Running stolen parts? Got crushed? Boo hoo.
And I have run in to a boat load of a-hole cops, but I would not make a blanket statement that they are all "pigs".

From CNN today:
The last four years it's been out of control," says Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Kim Miller, public affairs officer for Troop D in Orlando.
In the 10 days ending January 1, four people in her jurisdiction died, including a teen bicyclist just riding alongside the road.
There also have been deaths in other parts of the country.
There's no database tracking street racing deaths, but a Google search hints at the scope. Police say a 21-year-old man was killed while street racing in Copiague, New York, on January 6; a Texas City, Texas, teen killed in late December racing his best friend; a 60-year-old Bakersfield, California, grandmother killed in an accident with street racers in October; a 15-year-old boy killed in an accident with street racers in Elk Grove, California, in June. Those cases are found just in the first 30 matches on a Google search of "street racing deaths."
Yeah I bet the 60 year old woman and the guy on the bicycle were really at fault, and not some moron in a souped up Civic.
