Then why do you guys keep restating these meaningless specs?

Steve C has said very little, if anything, that is patently false. He actually complimented the NSX at least once in this thread, but you guys apparently missed it.

We wouldn't be here for the 20th time if you guys didn't keep goading his opinion out of him. And when he explains why he thinks that way, it's still not good enough for you. My question is, how many pages more will satisfy you guys?
NO...now why are you defending him? He keeps calling NSX buyers stupid and morons. I am not an NSX buyer, so I don't personally take offense, but seriously.
That's like me, a reasonable guy (most of the time), going to a Porsche thread and telling everyone they're stupid for taking one side. I think Porsches are stupid...I guess it's cool to some people that they all look the same (except those front engined cars and the Boxter, but don't get me started on the Boxter).

I think it sucks that Porsche can't change their design more drastically.

ALL PORSCHES ARE OUTDATED AND COMMON, THEY'RE OLD AND THE DESIGN SHOULD BE UPDATED NOW...ANYONE WHO HAS A PORSCHE IS A STUPID MORON WHO LIKES THE LETTER P.

I've really enjoyed this thread, I don't have anything of value to add.. but I just gotta laugh at the one guy plugging the Tommy Kaira, and over here in left field we have.....

for the money, I'd have a Noble in my driveway.. but wait, that is equally useless information.

carry on
Me too... The m400 will definately be my next fun car.. that or the ariel atom (if it ever becomes road legal in the us)

I don't have much to add to this argument either but I do have to say this would be one boring world if we all just bought cars by the numbers and tangibles alone...We'd all be driving corvettes....

911 vs. NSX. The cost of the car is similar, as is the basic layout, but the buying public has overwhelming decided in favor of the 911. The basic 911 design has evolved in ways the NSX has not, engine and cosmetics both. If once the two cars were comparable, they are no longer - the 997 is hands down the performance winner. Huge numbers of people find both to be a timeles design. Porsche fans have ben sated with redesigns and power bumps over the years. NSX fans have been rewarded with token efforts on both fronts. As an NSX fan, 'd say the NSX is dated, hardcore. As a 911 fan, I'd say Porsche has kept the timeless beauty of the design, while addressing concerns of the buying public.

I don't doubt that Porsche could sell a few hundred air-cooled 911s today, at ~$80K a pop. The fact that they weren't satisfied with a few hundred in sales says more about the company structure and goals than anything. The fact that H0onda is satisfied with the few hundred models the NSX moves per year these days says the same about thier goals.

To answer the original question, I think we have conclusively shown that despite the number of fans of the current NSX, there are far more poeple who would love to see a more modern apprach to the capital C car, to refer to tha Platonic ideal. Is the NSX still the car it was in 1990? Hell no. Does that stop people from wanting one? Hell no.

I still want an air-cooled 911, black, hardtop, turbo please. If they made one today, could I afford it? Probably not. Does that affect my desire for the car? No. I don't expect my dream air-cooled turbo 911 to top the charts of modern performance cars. The difference is, Porsche doesn't try to sell a halo car that is at the bottom of the list as far as performance goes. I appreciate how Porsche has moved on. In 1990, I wondered how they were going to do so - the then-current 911 was the dream car of every young boy, regardless of its actual place in the sports car heirarchy. They have found a way to keep the 911 in the lineup, yet keep the car current. Honda has not performed the same feat with the NSX, hence threads like this.

Corvettes have always out-performed the NSX. Mustangs have not. It truly is a sad commentary on Honda engineering when Ford can sell 100,000+ units of a car that shames the Honda flagship in such a way. It doesn't matter how well a "supercar" handles when stoplight drags tear paint from its fenders. Its kinda tough to be faster on a road course when you get left behind at every corner. The saddest sentence ever is, "yeah, but on a road course I'd be a little faster than you." Did Ferrari settle for this? No. Did Lamborghini? No. Did Porsche? No. Did Chevrolet? No. Did BMW? No. Did Mercedes? No. Did Audi? No. Did Jaguar? No. Did Dodge? No.

Hell, at least Subaru has the STi, Mitsubishi the EVO, Nissan the 350Z, Toyota, well, um, they'll get back to you For what it is worth, There are a number of Japanese sports cars wrth owning, but none really compete on the same level as European and American makes. Perhaps it is fallout from the Asian bubble economy collapse, perhaps it is just a resistance tochange, perhaps it is just a catering toa limited clientele. Whatever the reason, there hasn'tbeen a noteworthy sports coupe out of Japan besides the 350Z (which is a fine, fine car.), and nothing approaching the mastery of the form like the RX7, Supra, or NSX in many years. The fact that the NSX hasn't changed signinficantly is merely testament to Honda stubborness, nothing else, IMHO.

The only reason threads like this reach this length is because people want to like the NSX, but Honda makes it so damn hard

You can get the AUTOBACS GARAIYA from Japan, the TOMMY KAIRA ZZ and ZZII are available in the UK. It just takes somebody to import them to your shores.

Any other questions? Otherwise, I rest my case and you're wrong. Just admit it.

One area the NSX does well in, is top speed. I believe it's 170-175mph. That's better than most cars inc. M3, STi, EVO, (probably) Boxster S.

I know it's a dubious value except on the track.

(nine) pages of this
Still not very impressive considering that is the supposed figure for 2002++ models, older ones are 155-160mph.
