Dated NSX

911 vs. NSX. The cost of the car is similar, as is the basic layout, but the buying public has overwhelming decided in favor of the 911. The basic 911 design has evolved in ways the NSX has not, engine and cosmetics both. If once the two cars were comparable, they are no longer - the 997 is hands down the performance winner. Huge numbers of people find both to be a timeles design. Porsche fans have ben sated with redesigns and power bumps over the years. NSX fans have been rewarded with token efforts on both fronts. As an NSX fan, 'd say the NSX is dated, hardcore. As a 911 fan, I'd say Porsche has kept the timeless beauty of the design, while addressing concerns of the buying public.
I do agree that 14 years is too long for the car to go relatively unchanged. I do agree that, in those past 14 years, the competition is better in most (if not all) performance categories.
Just don't lay it on so thick Steve. It seems like we all have similar feelings. Yours are just so strong that no one is going to sit here and take it.
The thing that you don't understand is. Honda makes 200 a year (that's taken from earlier in THIS thread), and selling them all.
Now from an operations control point of view, I'd say there's nothing wrong. "Yeah but they're morons" "And it's because of the killer lease option yo!" Well they want money and NSX is too low volume to justify R&D right now. They have bigger fish to fry.
In due time...
As a current owner of an '02 NSX I wasn't going to comment but I am compelled to respond to the "morons" statement. I guess I am in the catagory of "morons"
as I bought mine new in 2002. Personally - my take on the whole NSX vs whatever or is the NSX worth it blah blah blah can be summed up in one phrase; to each his own. I could have bought a Porsche, C5 ect; ...but I choose to buy the NSX. Just my personal taste or what I wanted or whatever. I honestly don't think however that I am a moron for my purchase.......To Me - the NSX is one of the best cars ever built. I would buy it 100x out of 100.
anyway ......like I said - to each his / her own.

I'm really curious which consumer cars and race cars they picked. Ten years ago we had race cars like the Porsche 962LM and McLaren F1 GTR, after all.

Ford Rally car 15 years old, won the WRC 4 times straight, VS std Ford Fucus = Focus won
Audi Quatro rally that dominated everybody VS Mistubishi Evo8 340HP = Evo won
Vintage GT40, the Ferarri Killer, VS a Noble (m12? ) maybe an M400 = GT40 won
The gist was that todays modern cars on average are better then yesteryears dedicated race cars.
To top it off, they had Alonzo's F1 car around thier circuit, at a time of 59 seconds, besting the fastest car on thier list the Enzo at 1:19 and change

Is this Skyline or Porsche? or what?
It is as desirable as a Civic DX with no options.
