Please don't imply that the E46 M3 engine is as reliable or well built as either the 3.0L or 3.2L NSX engine.
If you want info nsxprime.com has all you need. Go find an E46 with 200k+ miles on the stock engine. You won't.

Just to re-cap...in 14 years...
NSX has gone from 250hp to 290hp (+40 hp)
911 from 250 hp to 355 hp (+105 hp)
The M3 has gone from 192 hp to 240 hp to 333 hp (+141 hp)
-->and next to 400 hp
The Boxster S has gone from 252 hp to 280 hp (in 5 years).
The NSX should produce 350hp (NA V6) it can be done, the RL out powers the NSX.

all the cars you've listed are overpriced (performance/price according to steve c et al thinking), yet for some reason, nobody seems to mind if they're overpriced.

It's gone from 270 to 290 hp. Automatics have always been 250, and still are. So an increase of only 20 hp.

You make statements but don't back them up.
Take each thing I listed and prove that it's common.
Tell me how many six (or eight) cylinder motors can rev past 8000 rpm (remember, you said $15K-20K economy cars, but I'll take any type for most of these).
Tell me how many cars have titanium connecting rods.
Tell me how many cars have an aluminum chassis.
Tell me how many cars have aluminum suspension subframes.
Tell me how many cars have 4 channel ABS.
Tell me how many cars have aluminum control arms.
Tell me how many cars in this category weigh under 3000 lbs.
Tell me how many cars make 90 hp/L while normally aspirated (especially economy cars).
