Decisions, decisions.
Ok, I've got me a job that pays decently, I'm 19 years old, and I'm looking to buy my first car. I grew up sorta poor, so I don't get anything handed to me on a silver platter, so for my first car, I'm going to either buy a '93 Prelude Si, or a '93 Del Sol Si. I'm saving up now, and it probably won't be a few more months before I'll be able to afford one. I'm wonderin if anyone would like to state the pros and cons of each. So far, the 'lude is my number one choice, simply because it has more room, and personally, I like the look better. Opinions? Thanks
Family have both of them. The 95 del Sol si has intake, exhaust, aftermarket suspensions and 17" wheels...blah blah blah, the 93 lude is bone stock.
The lude has a lot more torque then the Sol, makes daily driving a lot more comfortable. No VTEC though. Fairly stiff chassis means a set of shocks and springs and some good tires will bring lots of fun. Shifter travels a bit longer then i would like, clutch engaging point is a bit muddy. Throttle response is fair. I'd get some aftermarket break pads. 2+2 means you can take a few more girls on the nite out. Lots of side bolsters on seats to hold you in, interior layout is just odd...very odd. Good leg room (i'm 5'10"), little headroom, rear seats will only fit your little girlfriends. Useful trunk space is not much more then the Sol. Other then that, its a nice comfortable car.
Sol has a bit more personality. Chassis is soft...i mean SOFT. You NEED aftermarket parts to make this car handle. I recommend a good set of rear sway bars, set of adjustable shocks, and EVERY chassis brace you can buy (They REALLY help the performance on this car). Engine is typical Honda...short on torque...loves to rev. Just remember to hold the gear till rpm reads 7k. Interior layout is far more sportier then the lude. Plenty of legroom, little skimpy on hip room, a LOTS if head room once you pull the top off.
Gear box is awesome (not s2k awesome...but awesome). 2 seater is a 2 seater...no more. In fact, good luck if you're trying to build a good sound system. Trunk is surprisingly large for a car this size, weekend golf with your buddy will not be a problem.
We should be getting rid of both cars fairly soon...drop me a line when you're ready to buy.
