Differences between '03/'04/'05 600RR
get what you want...If you can afford it then get it. If you fall off a SV650 at 60 mph you're going to get hurt, and if you fall off a 600rr at 60mph you're going to get hurt. 600rr is a good first bike because all the power are delivered at high rpm just like the s2000.

If you want to have fun on bikes for a long time, get a good first bike. The SV650 is a GREAT first bike--easy to ride, and easy to ride FAST. Don't kid yourself, the CBR600RR in the right hands can keep up with a good rider on a liter bike. You'll hurt yourself faster on a CBR than you would on an SV650. Someone said it earlier--if you haven't ridden before, you will definitely NOT find the limits of a CBR, let alone an SV650. You won't ride the bike hard enough to get the forks to flex (usd forks not needed), and you'll never need all the hp of a CBR, although the hp can be intoxicating.
If you're serious about motorcycling, start with the right bike, and then move up when you've put some mileage under your belt. And most importantly, HAVE FUN!!!

Consider learning on someone's crap bike, or buying a junker for the first couple months, then test ride all the 600's you're interested in, all have huge capabilities, but your riding style may like one better than the rest, for me the 600RR sits way too far forward and feels funny cause I'm tall.... but an excellent bike... who cares if it weighs a few more lbs, that's probably why it feels more planted than the R6 (although the R6 feels more sharp with turn in)

The 05' has gone on a diet, which it REALLY needed (still does), has the new forks, radial brakes, and new 1000-style swingarm. It's also supposed to have more horsepower. If you're buying a new '04, you may want to reconsider. If you're buying used, I've test-ridden them and they are great bikes. When they talk about mass-centralization, they mean it. Although the bike feels like a bit of a pig when just sitting on it, when it's moving, the fat just melts away.
The 2003 is a completely different bike. I guess it comes down to price--do you plan on adding a pipe and PCIII? If your 04 bike has this already, it may be as good or better than the 05.

The 05's changes are inverted Forts, Radial mount four piston calipers. It drop a few lbs, suppose to have better midrage and something else i just can't think of it.
When they talk about mass-centralization, they are not talking about the bike being wide. The bike is slim compaired to some bikes. Most 04's are slim. Go sit on a 03 gsxr then sit on the rr you can tell the diff.
