I often skip a gear on the down shift, 5th to 3rd especially if I've been cruising along and want to get into the vtec zone or 3rd to 1st if cruising up to red light that goes green as I roll up to it, I don't see this harming the box as the syncro hubs work regardless of if how many gears you may skip, problems may occur if the revs/speed aren't matched correctly and shock loads are transmitted through the drivetrain. On track I would always use each gear to prevent transmission lockups and of course heel/toe to keep he revs smooth.

Why would you "double clutch" if the car has syncros? If you are talking about "heel - toe" than that's a different thing where you match your revs when you downshift so it's a smooth transition to the lower gear, which will favor the transmission and there will be little shift shock. I would just run it through the gates even though it may not be the gear that I want to put it in.

As long as you use rev matching you can use any gear that is appropriate... no need to go in order.

I love how everyone is making a big mess out of this. Just rev match it. You don't want to be going 60mph in 6th gear coming into an 30mph turn and shift into 2nd or 3rd gear without rev matching. Why do you have to down shift in order if you rev match?

unless your racing someone that got a jump on you while your in 6th and you wanted to drop it in 3rd or 2nd to be in optimal gear to catch up. i would still d/c rev match from 6th-5th-4th-3rd, plus it sounds cool.

some people because its a synchronized tranny will just shift from 6th-5th-4th-3rd without d/c revmatching, but nothing beats a blip of the throttle when down shifting.

I never skip shift, whether it be up shifting or down.

^^So if you're going 55mph on a highway in 6th gear and slowing down to make a right turn(let just say you're not making a complete stop) in 3rd gear going 25mph. Do you still down shift through 5th and 4th before going into 3rd or do you just clutch out, rev match and go into 3rd?

I use the double-clutch as engine brake in this type of scenario, typically in 5th. Clutch in, let out, clutch in, let out, shift.

with this, and yes, it's not completely necessary with a synchro, but it IS a good practice to double declutch if skipping gears shifting down.

it depends on how you plan ahead. i highly doubt if your on a freeway doing 55-65mph that you will find a turn that all of suddens drops to 25mph even if you are exiting.

if you referering to 65mph on a freeway and you exit and 1/2 mile ahead is a turn that post a 25mph turn. it would all depend on what speed you enter the turn. i always d/c rev-match from 6th-5th-4th-3rd where the car has enough torque to pull away while i the turn. in 4th gear i would say i'm at 1/10 of mile away from turn entry and while in turn entry i'm in 3rd, under my normal driving.

now if i was racing. i'd carry as much speed into the turn but i would still d/c rev-match from 4th to 3rd and d/c rev-match heel toe into 2nd while i'm in turn entry.
