People definitely do it.

However it doesn't seem to be eligible for SCCA Solo, at least not the stock classes.

It doesn't seem like the best Autocross car on paper given its size and weight, but its low end acceleration is quite good.

Autocross? This car can fly. However, a GTR forum would know better. I'm sure there are owners on there who do autox.

Well I runs track days in a local go-kart track. It's almost an autocross. The GTR have the record of any legal road car at the track at 54 seconds flat. A very modded supercharger widebody 350z made a 54.9. I'm stuck at 56.5. A track ready FD rx-7 made 53 seconds along with a 400whp ariel atom. So, the GTR is a very good car

GTRs in SCCA ASP gets rocked by the GT3. They are too big and heavy for autox.

I imagine the ASP allowances bump a GT3's output more than the GTR (forced induction seems more mod-bound than "Carburetors, fuel injection, and intake manifolds are unrestricted"). But it does sound like the GT3 is just substantially more nimble on uber-tight tracks.

See http://scca.cdn.racersites.com/prod/...lo%20Rules.pdf

ASP notes start at page 91 (engine & drivetrain on page 101)

Which brings up a question for the OP: Does "autocross well" mean regularly winning in its class, or fun to drive and puts up respectable times?

I'd think that regardless of how the GTR performs at autocross, it seems a really small track for the car, not based on the car's size but it's capabilities.

Part of the problem with autocrossing a stock GTR is that the GTR comes with 20" Wheels. And neither Hoosier nor Kumho make 20" R compounds.

If you put 19 or 18" wheels on a GTR, it's no longer eligible for stock.

But even in ASP, it would have to contend with Elise that weigh half as much as the GTR. Then Corvette Z06s have just as much power, fit MORE tire under them, but weight 1000lbs less than the GTR. If you look at 2011 SCCA Solo2 Nationals, there was one GTR that showed up in the open class and came in 11th out of 17 in ASP. It was 5.3 seconds behind the winning 2006 Z06 over 2 days, which is an eternity in autocross time.

There were also 2 GTR drivers out of 4 Ladies ASP competitors this year, and they finished 1 and 2. But the Ladies ASP drivers were well behind the open class ASP winning times.

To give you an idea what the GTR would be up against, the BSP winning Evo IX was over 3 seconds faster than the fastest GTR at 2011 nationals. The DSP, ESP, and even FSP winners were also all faster than the ASP GTR.

It looks like they are talking about letting the GTR and a handful of other cars (R8, Zr1, viper 2008+ not sure about the acr) compete in SS next year....if i'm reading it right. i don't know crap about auto-x classifications.
