Default Ride in a GT-R

Had the opportunity to be an instructor at an SCCA trackday at Road America last week. I track my06 NFR often and club race an RX-7 so I spend a fair amount of time on track. I managed to get a ride in 2 new cars. One was a new 911 turboS awd and one was a new GT-R. My S was a blast but the AWD and power of these vehicles is staggering. Cornering/braking on the S was brilliant but the AWD on these vehicles was truly impressive, mostly in the corners. The GT-R managed 148 mph before braking into turn 1, the 911 141mph. Both drivers needed a little help from the electronics mid-corner and boy, did it work! At the end of the day, my S still impressed me as always, but on a big track like RA, hp rules.

I totally agree. While the GT-R is an abomination, the fact still remains that it is FAST. In my experience, the VDC in the GT-R is a bit overly intrusive, but I suppose that's safer for the majority of owners...

Agreed, but fast is not always fun. I enjoy knowing that my hands and feet are the only things keeping my back wheels from passing up my front wheels.

Especially in the GT-Rs case, it's amazing how power and electronics can make up for a completely obese car. Even if you gave me a GT-R for free, I wouldn't want to pay for all the consumables that fat-ass eats up.

driving on big tracks like california speedway is pretty funny when there are vipers, gtr's, 911 turbos, and other crazy fast cars. My foot's on the floor going around the oval and cars pass me like I'm going backwards.

We have a well-sorted GT-R in our region, and everyone who's driven it says it's more fun than a barrel of monkeys. A different kind of fun than an S2000, surely, but fun nonetheless.

Drove one for a couple of laps at an autocross. What a pig (had agreement with others). May be a good track car but you just don't see any at lower speeds where the electronic trickery can't compete with physics.

It's not what I would buy for the money but I thought it was very fun to drive. Despite all the electronics, it was still very engaging. And that raw POWER! I'd challenge anyone to get some track time on one and not have a smile when you get out of the car.

Edit: I do imagine it would suck in a auto x. In stock form it was tough to rotate in tight corners.

Fortunately, the GTR isn't allowed in SCCA's Stock classes, so you're forced to mod away in Street Prepared at the very least.

Raw power can be fun. So can throwing pig around corner
First time I went to track I took my CLS63, not Porsche or GTR but can hang with them all in street trim. I think electronics are pretty much must with 500+hp thing makes. I tried with traction off and it is sideways to much. On other end safety features start kicking in when you push limit, windows closing and seat belt tightening when car thinks I am crashing due to little sideway action and roll angles.
Transmission is something that can not keep up and does not work on this car, regardless what mode you are in. This track day is what made me buy s2k
Still it was a lot of fun to throw cls around and I will probably do it again.
