Tell him to buy a accord and call it a day
I hope you are kidding. the 4G63 Iron block can handle 600whp on stock internals and is one of the best proven performance engines ever built. Please do more homework.

have had zero problems with my ms3, 18k miles so far.

evo and sti are in a league of their own, he will have to settle for one of those a few years older, like someone said.

given the weather as stated, he should get the evo/sti tho, sounds like he needs awd there

AWD would be good...AWD w/ 300+ WHP might not be nearly as useful.

I can't think of the last time I've ever heard of a block failure on an unmodified engine. Who cares about 600hp if the stock car produces 300. A stock block LT1 V8 could produce 600+ hp but the opti-spark was still a source of trouble on the 275hp version.

The Miata's 1.8L motor can gain over 100 turbo HP but that does fix the bad coil packs on the stock '00 motor.

The old Eclipse motor could produce a lot more than stock power. That didn't stop it from being a service hog.

The iron block SAAB motors are capable of a 50% hp boost. That doesn't fix their stock water pumps.

How much you can boost a motor has almost nothing to do with how reliable it will be in stock form. Please do more homework to understand that.

None of these cars are going to be good in the snow with stock tire. Any of them should be fine in the snow with snow tires. The MS3 would be my choice as it's likely cheaper to insure, less likely to have been previously owned by a boyracer, looks more respectable and is a better value. It's also not down as much power as your acceleration numbers suggest. The 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are largely affected by the AWD launch. On the roll the differences are smaller. I find 1.4 trap speeds to be a better indication of power as I won't be dropping my clutch to launch all the time.

While it's fine to suggest those cars, much beyond that I think you are giving bad advice.

PS: The top mounted intercooler makes it easier to install that engine package in multiple cars. It was not done because it was the "best" way to mount an intercooler. It was done because it makes it easier to put that engine in several different cars without having to put a bunch of plumbing in the front bumper area.

[QUOTE=TommyDeVito,Aug 14 2009, 01:10 AM]

AWD in inclement weather pwns FWD or RWD.

[QUOTE=zachismisitok,Aug 14 2009, 05:33 AM] FWD is MORE than enough to get me through bad storms, and I've been through some real shit storms.

No it isn't. You have wreck your car but you obviously are so in love with it that you can't admit that you crash every time it rains. Please start thinking before claiming a FWD car could be driven in the rain.
and I thought my grammar was bad. I'm in love with my car? Don't get your panties in a bunch because I like to correct someone else's ignorance and generalization

I test drove a MS3 lst week for fun, I thought it was not that bad in stock form. With that being said my friend who works at the dealership was telling me that once you start turning the boost up and putting down more power things seem to start letting go. So I would say it depends what your friend wants to do with the car.

IMO STi Evo are a about even I have likes and dislikes about each then MS3.

Sorry, I often type faster than I think. That should have been wrecked. It was also supposed to be humor, not a put down. I was failing to make a joke about the idea that you must have AWD to drive in the rain.
