Picked up this Japanese car mag that deals with the NSX. Can anyone speak Japanese?

I don't speak Japanese, but thanks for posting. I was thinking about getting a new car. With all the new/ facelifted sportscars coming out in 2004/5/6 I'll consider the NSX amongst them, but it doesn't look that great.

I was thinking of getting a Porsche 911, but that is also changing next year, same time as the NSX? I have a feeling we may be surprised at the Tokyo motor show in October.

The revamped 911 (997) will hit the road next year. New 3.8 boxer, 19" wheels standard, double clutch gearbox an option.
All new 998 might have an 8 cylinder (2007 ?)

Just some food for thought...

Since the 360 Modena is aerodynamically one if the best road cars ever built to date... I find it believeable that Honda would incorporate a few of the design elements into the next NSX. If you look at the silver car the front is clearly off the 360.

I don't know what's believable and what's not though. The red car is obviously similar looking to the DualNote. I really don't know anything about the car. I want to think 3.5-3.7L V6 with Ti con rods and oversquare design that would rev to 8500-9000 rpm. It just wouldn't be a Honda sports car without the ability to rev past 8000 rpm.

I really don't think they would put an air scoop on the roof. As cool as it is and I'd love to see it, it just makes visibility out the back too diffecult. And for a Honda road car some thigs are unacceptable.

I think you'll probably see a vented hood and more use of composite material than even the current Type R.

I guess one important factor that I haven't heard a lot of people address is where the price is going. One part of me wants to say keep the price up at 80-90k and just build the best car possible for that price. But another part of me wants to see the price point come down into 50-60k range and try to have comparable performance to a 360 Modena or 911 turbo. I just don't think people are prepared to pay 90k for a Honda even if the performance meets or exceeds those cars. Personally, Honda engineering is awesome I think so there are a few people that would probably step up, but when you're talking that kind of money, the badge plays a role unfortunately in the purchase of the car.

If you are thinking about a new 911, say in 2005, I would take a look at the new Aston Martin AMV8. It is an amazing looking car with the power to back it up. Base model will be pushing 390 with a SC model pushing 500HP. Starting price for the 390HP model puts it in direct competion withe the 911.

A roof scoop intake would be cool. Maybe they can run it down a rear pillar to get the benefit without a vision penalty. Or you could insert a clear see-through section (plastic or glass) between the roof scoop and the rear deck.
