getting a feel for the common man in autodom?
have any of you struck up a conversation with an automotive layman about cars with emphasis on handling. I'm not talking about the brash young punk out there who think a wing on a stock civic gives 400 lbs of downforce.
I'm talking about your common person who has a quality taste in cars, works a 9 to 5 job and cares about his/her vehicle but may not be to the level of insanity of us.
what were some of the things that they say about the overall road manners of thier car that you can share.
case in point:
I was talking to a neighbor who has the new Maxima SE. He saw me pull in and greeted me as I exited the Miata. He pointed out the new purchase and I started talking to him about it. I asked a variety of questions and probed him with "so, how is the handling and road manners?"
He responded with...."car handles fantastic. I enjoy a good curve at 15 over the speed limit from time to time."
I mentioned a very nice road near us and the speed is posted at 40. He replied " oh yeah...I love that road.....I take it at no more than 55....that keeps almost everyone behind me."
I told him I take that road at 80 mph. He didn't believe a car could stay on that road at that speed.

That is funny, well, one of my bonehead co-workers was watching me "working" whle I was posting, and she said, "oh, you know about cars....so, how do I make my tires go faster?". I said "what?", she said, "I know that I push the pedal harder makes the car faster, but does that oil light mean that I have too much oil on my wheels?".
So, I just ignored her and walked away in tears, because it's sad that people like her are allowed on the streets!!
