In something less than 5200lbs!!

Here are the specs on the Xdrive50i.

http://www.roadandtrack.com/assets/downloa...RT_BMWX6_dp.pdf

400hp 450lb tq

0-60mph 4.8 seconds

0-100mph 12.5 seconds

1/4mi 13.4 seconds

This behemoth weighs a boatload. BMW must have some SICK SICK plans for the next M5 because the 550i's replacement will get this motor. The current 550i weighs 4,000lbs. Thats a whopping 1200lbs. I suspect the difference wont be that much in the up and coming gen. Welcome to the era of 12second non-M cars for the wealthy.

On a side note, I cant wait for someone to swap this in an M3. I'm going to go out on a limb and say its underrated and finely tuned.

I think the CTS-V and the 555i will be crosshopped more than the M5. I'll prematurely give the handling nod to the Caddy.

That 400hp has to be underrated because 400hp does not move 5,200lbs to a 4.8 0 to 60 and 13.4 1/4 mile.

Pretty incredible. The 555i should be a nice ride, albeit probably $70k. At that price point, it's the 550+hp CTS-V for me and for less money.

I'm wondering how underrated. This car/motor makes the Porsche Cayenne Turbo look grossly overpriced. The Porsche has 500hp now and is only a smidge faster. It also costs $115,000.

The current 550i retails at 58k. Your definitely right on the price increase.

yeah, see, I wonder about the M5. If they drop this into the 550, that is the model equivalent of putting the tt into the 335 (which they did), and keeping the new M3 NA with less tq and more hp and higher revs.

Realistically, I don't see BMW going FI in the M models. I just doesn't seem like it fits with their strategy as of late. Strategies can change, of course, but...

I can definitely see a new M5 that is slower in a straight line than the CTS-V, but still beats it around a track...seems to be the BMW way.

I'm willing to bet it puts out at least 450hp.

I wouldnt be surprised if that was the case. Its nice to finally see this TTV8 producing such impressive results. I'm looking forward to it in a lighter vehicle as well! The thought of a 12second car from BMW that isnt an M is quite nice. The bar will be set for the M5.

yeah, they definitely keep brand image in their styling as a higher priority than attractive appearance. the 3 series hood makes me think of an 8 year old in church with his hair slicked. it's a bit forced, and doesnt really look right for the car.

I drove the X6 last week at the Ultimate BMW Drive event, and all I can say is wow, it had the inline 6-cylinder, and it was fast, once they put this engine in it I am sold, it's my next car, you have to respect BMW for what they did in this car, steering is razor sharp, you have to test drive one to believe it, I never thought it would be possible in a car this size.
