how bout getting a S2000 and a M3. i think it's a more well-rounded car than the all-go Z06. they both cost the same.

Do not think the M3 CSL will touch the Z06 either...

Wait a year and the "M" division will have their own version of the upcoming Z-4. It surely will be an S2K killer, but expect to pay $55 to $60 K. I'll be happy with my S2K and the extra expendable income.

I haven't driven a Z8 (has anyone?) but I think the cars are actually quite similar in acceleration, especially low to mid speed driving (ie, below 90mph). MT got a 4.2 0-60 out of a Z8, with a mid 12s 1/4 mile, which is quite similar to what they got out of a Z06.

I'm not a magazine racer, but unless you've raced or driven a Z8, you really can't say definitively can you?

Overall, the Z06 is the clear winner, but in pure straight line acceleration (ie, how "fast" it is), it's not a clear winner until you get to extra-legal speeds. Racing light to light, it's anyone's race.

Again, to clarify, the Z06 is CLEARLY faster given enough time and room - on the street, though, you're not going to notice it that much if at all. The speeds just aren't high enough....

We all know German horsepower is magical for some reason. We also know the M5 engine is a work of art. However, I also agree that with the width and suspension on the Z06, the Z8 will lose in any road race period. The straight line race would be interesting to see but I think most owners of Z8's don't fit road racing into their schedule.
