How about a review on the 02 VFR
I believe that their are several people here that own the "New" 02 VFR. I would be very interested in hearing what they think of their new bike now that they have owned it for a while. First, I would like to know if you have ridden or owned the last generation of Viffer's (98-01) and can discuss the differences, similarities, and performance of the 02 vs. last generation. Did you spend the extra 1K on the ABS, and if so was it worth it? If this is your first VFR, what do think of the LBS (linked braking system)?

I bought mine in July, traded a FZ1 for it. I like it better then the FZ1 and the 2000 VFR that I owned too. I have 5500 miles on it now
The 02 handles much better, shaper and much more stable at speed. I did drop the triple clamp 10mm to quicken up the steering more. The power delivery with the Vtec is different (kind of a Jekyll and Hyde bike). The gearbox is smoother. The riding position is right on and the wind protection is better and a lot quiter than the 00 VFR.
The power is similar, I did add a power commander and staintune exhaust (the bike sounds like a Ford V8 now)
I do not have ABS, I much prefer threshold braking on a bike.
The only thing that worries me a little is the complexity of the Valve train and Vtech hardware.
That said, I would not hesitate to buy a previous VFR if the pricing was right. The 02 is just a little bit sharper, and IMO looks better.
Cheers,
George

George; Sounds pretty good! I wasn't real crazy about the direction that Honda took with the 02. I was in hopes that the bike would gain displacement (read HP) and shed some weight. I look upon the V-Tech application as a measure to show a change for the new model and maybe hold market share. The new Yamie FJR with 145 HP is going to one up the VFR and that's a damm shame. I guess I'll keep my 99 until they bring out the next generation, that is if I don't go for the FJR. Oh by the way, do you miss the gear driven cam whine of your old bike? How much does the new one weigh?

If you're happy with your 99 hold it for another year or 2, Honda is sure to make some changes in the next year or 2.
I do miss the Gear whine a little. The 02 is heavier, but the weight disappears once you are rolling.
