Now if you raise the HP and gear it properly to make up for he extra redline (which means more RWTQ) it reaches that speed faster, torque is nothing without revolutions but we have a dyno graph telling us how much torque it has at X RPM, it all boils down to torque is what moves your car. A jet is quite different from a car, it's driven through thrust, the 2 should hardly be compared.
FYRHWKI: (no flame just reasonable discussion)

1. You can't raise a cars hp without increasing torque or raising redline. Increasing hp would require a faster turning engine (rpms) and thus more torque or higher redline. So in theory your right, but in the real world it's impossible to do... so it a mute point. Your creating an impossible scenario to prove your point.

2. When you increase the hp and keep gearing the same you will decrease the time it takes to get from point A to B (assuming all else stays the same weight, drag, etc.) PERIOD. This is not accomplished by the increase in torque, but rather by an increase in force. Now keep the hp levels the same, but change the gearing and you will increase or decrease the amount of time it takes to get from point A to B. This again is not because of torque, but again force.

3. FORCE causes the center of mass of a system to ACCELERATE. Not TORQUE
Torque and work are expressed in the same units (Newton meters) but they are different physical quantities, torque being a vector and work being a scalar.

Think of it this way. Spin something perfectly round. It will spin in place until it run out of torque. Spin it again and thump it with your finger (force). No matter how FAST you spin it (lbs of torque), the distance traveled will be determined by how much you thump it (force). Now you will say spin the object so it rolls rather than spins it place. (this is were you think you will get me). This to is still force. The object will have a maximum torque at a certain revolution. Only increasing or decreasing the size of the object will increase or decrease the torque. Now to get it rolling faster will require more force. (if I were to apply this to a car it would need more hp to roll faster)

I think you are confusing torque with force.
