Default Hyundai Genesis Pricing Ripoff

A friend of mine has a Genesis Coupe 2.0 R-Spec, and was looking up parts prices (MSRP) online.

Flywheel ~$3K (16% of the price of the car)
Front brake pads $300
Rotors $1K each
clutch disc + pressure plate $1K

I guess they're taking the approach of luring you in w/ great perceived value on the front end, w/ the hope of making it up in over-priced parts? Even Porsche isn't that greedy on their parts pricing!

MSRP mean almost nothing. What are dealer prices like? How about online prices?

Wow - $3K for a flywheel and $1K EACH for rotors?!?! They have big brakes but sheesh - that's ridiculous (worse than E90/92 M3 brake rotor prices). However, I'm betting that the aftermarket will provide them for $200-$300 each.

Well for the non brembo brakes, there's a reasonable 60 bucks, but the flywheel is ridiculous... but then again I'd jsut go aftermarket. The usual stuff like bumpers and what not are all reasonably priced though. I mean mercedes charges 100 bucks for a 2"x2" piece of plastic that cover the tow hook area on a bumper, so go figure.

He's not making it up...

escription Year MSRP Price Core Price Your Price
Flywheel, genesis coupe, 2.0l
10-11 $3,029.05 $2,423.24
Includes Ring Gear.

From a discount OEM parts website, it's still $2400!

$2400 for the OE flywheel. Or just buy an aftermarket flywheel for less than $500...

$300 for OE front brake pads. Or just buy aftermarket for $125.

$1000 for OE front brake rotors. Or just buy generics for $73. Or splurge on slotted Brembos for $358. Or REALLY splurge and buy the Brembo big brake kit for $4200 that comes with all 4 rotors, pads, and calipers all for less than you can get pads and rotors from the dealer.

A lot of people are not forum users or online shoppers. Most will go into a dealership when their clutch/brakes are worn out and pay what they are told.

Then a lot of people need to wake up and join the 21st century. Dealerships ripping people off is nothing new, and aftermarket parts being much cheaper is nothing new. If this is your argument, then consumers are simply dumb.

I'm curious do those rates include labor? Because from a labor standpoint a flywheel turns into a long job.

How often do you plan on replacing the flywheel anyways... I am sure for commonly replaced parts its not that bad.
