I liked the DSG in my S4 and didn't miss the manual at all.
I'm okay with flappy paddles in modern sports cars. I'd switch the S2000 over if I could.

I have a DSG in my Audi S3 and love it. I don't miss shifting when I am driving the Audi, however when I climb back into the S2000 I do still enjoy heal toeing and rowing gears.

Previous gen V8 M3? Can be had for far below $50k if looking for a second car. My local BMW dealer is selling BMW performance center current gen M3 & 4's for close to $50k with about 5,000 tough miles on them.

just looked, cheap ones are gone. They have a couple with original stickers of $87k for $66k, but the lower optioned ones have been snatched up, and they were $55k I think.

But here is a low mile 2009 DCT V8 for $36k for the OP

Personally, I have never put many miles on a good paddle shift. Recently drove a 718 Boxster S with PDK and just let it pretty much go full auto. I have paddle shifters on my 3 series "sport" transmission that are not PDK fast or DCT fast but they are much quicker than standard auto fare and I got bored with them real fast. I use them occasionally to drop two gears when I want to pass and then flick the gears back up, but they end up being more of a hassle than they are fun IMHO.
I also have (yes super nerdy) a Fanatec wheel for Forza video games and when having the choice to use the optional manual clutch pedal and shifter or the paddles, the shifter is always more fun. I even prefer the manual when geeking out in the virtual world of dork racing.
The only way I go paddle shift is for a daily that the wife can drive and I use in stop and go winter traffic. Otherwise I loves me them clutches and stick shifts.
