That seems a little high but might be the norm for your location. I'm 24 with a clean record and for full coverage in NC my premium went up $240 for 6 months when I put my bike on it. Again, different zip codes can vary what you pay.

That is their way of telling you they don't want to insure you.

There are so many variables involved that you really have to call around and get quotes.

Variables include:

Age
Married/Single
Ticket history
Accident history
Coverages
Location
Type of bike
Displacement of motor
Age of bike
Etc.

Make sure you have them quote exactly the same coverages.

My first bike in 1985 cost me $3000 to buy. My agent wanted $1500 to insure it the first year. Ten minutes on the phone and I got the same coverage for $450. Dropped the collision a year later when the loan was paid and got coverage for $175. By the time I sold it, I was paying $75 for the same coverage.

Progressive insures my ST1100 for $110 a year. But, I'm 43, married, no tickets or accidents on record, no collision coverage, been riding for 20 years, etc...

I have found the Progressive has not had good quotes when I checked either. My local Farm Bureau had way better rates..............and I am 26 with a clean record.

w/o colision its is alot lower. it is almost an advantage to pay cash for the bke and run it w/o colision.

Get as many quotes as you can. I found a 3 to 1 spread in costs when I shopped last time. Same company that is great in another region sucks in mine and vice versa.

Your age, and even ONE ticket, works against you big time.

Go w/out full coverage. Your going to have a deductible that will be higher that most parts you'll break. Sell the bike and get a bicycle or beater until your license is clean.

I just turned 26 and pay about $33 a month for my gsxr...full coverage, comp, collision, uninsured motorist, etc. So I'm going to say $500/month is way way way too high, not worth paying that much just to ride in my opinion.
