just wonering
I had Celica before my s2000 and the 2zz is a pretty good engine for its time. When I was on NewCelica.org, people where having trouble breaking 200whp N/A on a modded 2zz. Stock the 2zz will put down around 160-168 whp. I'd bet the MR-2 weighs in around 2500lb. Therefore, S2000 would be faster. I'd advise swapping in a K20 into the MR-2 over the 2zz. It has WAY more aftermarket support. But the 2zz is an easier swap to do. The MR-2 should have had an option to get the 2zz from the factory.

i forget which video it is but there is a best motoring video with a 2zz swapped mr2 that beats some s2000's and a few other higher end cars on a road course.
i was strongly considering getting an mr-s before i got my miata and from all that i've read on the forums the general consensus is that a 2zz swapped spyder with the stock five speed is a vast improvement but add the six speed (which you can get from a junkyard pontiac vibe for freaking 400 bucks) and a decent clutch and you have a 13 second car.
as said above, they do, in fact, weigh 2100 lbs. when everyone bitches about how newer cars are heavier to meet crash standards I always wonder about this anomaly. they didn't start making it until the 2000's and it passed all safety tests.

The MR-2 only weighs in at 2100 lbs?
That makes Lotus Exiges/Elises even more unique because at almost the same weight and almost the same power, Lotuses pull off 0-60 in less than 5 seconds whereas, according to the fellow S2Ki members who have posted in this thread, the MR-2 Spyder will just match or barely lose to the S2K.
