just wonering
The MR-S is excellent little car but is no comparison to the S2000.
Is like the MR-S is your dream girl with an A cup size and the S2000 is that same girl with some juicy C or D cups.
Almost same feeling but more fun

that MRS was a full track car where as the (amuse) s2000 had a full interior.
When it went up against the J's Racing S2000, it got embarrassed.

The MR-S now used is around $8K.
A 2zz swap is just $4k.
A MWR turbo kit for the MR-S 2zz is $5K.
For less than $20K you can have a 300hp 2100lbs car that has the same drivetrain as an exige.

the MR2 became interesting for me after I watched one of Best Motoring Internationals latest DVD's. In it was a feature called K20 Face Off. In it were various cars with K20 swaps pitted against each other. It was surprising to see that the fastest car on the track wasn't even a Honda, but an MR-S. It had in it a K20 that had been bumped in displacement to 2.4L as well as a few parts from a DC5. I was blown away by how fast it was around Tsukuba circuit. I didn't think the MR2 had such potential, but if you got the coin to drop on a K20 engine as well as the time and tools, I couldn't think of a better project car for track days at the moment.

As you can see in the video it laps in the 2 second range, which is a little over a second what the Lamborghini Gallardo Super Leggara does on the same track in one of their later DVD's.
I know this example isn't THAT close to the hypothetical that started the thread, but I've been so fascinated with this particular MR-S I thought now would be a great time to share

I was looking for an MR-S while shopping for a Miata. I really like the way they feel, and the extra interior space (much more roomy than a Miata or S2000). The problem is that everyone seems to think they're so valuable b/c they didn't sell many, and pricing is stupid high vs. the Miatas.
I'd have prob. gone that route if not for the big price delta....but I'm now glad I ended up w/ the Miata. A lot of MR-S's in my area were priced at S2000 levels!
