Here is the problem with the 5spd with the 2zz:

A lot of people have trouble staying in "Lift" (Toyota's VTEC) when shifting gears in the GT-S. You have to shift AT redline to end up in lift in the next gear. Therefore, if you are 100-200rpm short of redline, you will not be in lift in the next gear. Keep in mind this is with the 6spd tranny of the GT-S. When you mate up the 2zz with the 5spd you'd have no chance of landing in lift while shifting due to the much larger gears of the 5spd.

Note: It's been a while since I've been involved with the Celica crowd but this is the knowledge that popped up in my head.

Yeah mrs is a really fun car it really has a pull even with a 1zz
Yeah I think it saw a beat motoring video of n/a cars (s200 and 2zz mrs) against turbo cars and it did better than the s2k

Toyota should have made it availiable with a 2zz as an option

that MRS was a full track car where as the (amuse) s2000 had a full interior.

When it went up against the J's Racing S2000, it got embarrassed.

2zz equipped MR-S is an amazing autocross car. Sure the S2000 will be faster on a more open course, but a 'vette will be faster than an S2000 there too. All I'm saying is that power/weight isn't everything and I've seen some guys lay down some great times and have a ton of fun doing it in a car as light as the MR-S.

Hope Toyota brings out the new MR-S sometime in the future. Fun little mid-ship sports car....

newcelica Veteran here!! The MRS is definitely in the 2100-2200lb range, throw the C60 6 speed and 2zz in there and your definitely looking at mid to high 13's. I have no idea why toyota did not equp it in the first place with the 2zz.
