Default LANCER EVOLUTION PROTOTYPE Driving by Gilles Paniz

http://www.mitsubishi-motors.tv/categories...revo/gunma.html

This is not a new clip and probably a lot of people have seen it. Besides cool driving, I have questions on his braking. He likes to use left foot to adjust the brake while using right foot for gas and that's fine. But he doesn't seem to heel-toe at all while braking and downshifting. He just brakes and downshifts, then gas without any rev match. Is that rally driving? Anyone do that on tracks?

He might have heal toed the one corner on the first lap when he drifted a little, but they didn't show his feet. Who knows, I guess he opted to grip drive once those tires got some heat?

That's a cool video, even though I can't stand Panizzi. He's such a whiner, and he has the dorkiest helmet in the WRC. I wish Mitsubishi had hired someone else, because Panizzi can't drive on gravel or ice.

In any case, you're right that he doesn't seem to heel-and-toe the downshifts. Of course, the WRC cars he normally drives have sequential manual gearboxes, so maybe he doesn't know how to heel-and-toe?

Aw come on, Panizzi is the man! By far the best tarmac driver in the WRC, and he's stepped up his game on gravel. I became a permenant fan that year he was dominating Catalyunia so much that he took the time to cut some donuts under the bridge during a stage!! BADASS!!

I wonder why there is no heal-toe, but there was some pretty fancy footwork, and man was he pushing the shit out of that Evo.

Hey Folks,

HEEL = the thing on the bottom of your foot.

HEAL = What doctors help you do when you get injured.

Sorry, I couldn't restrain myself any longer.

Ah I didn't know that. I guess you're joking though when you say he doesn't know how to. See him moving his left foot between the clutch and brake, I won't doubt he's skill driving a real manual.

I bet he would drive faster if he had his brother in the passenger seat saying somthing like...

"Start, 30, Keep left over a crest into short 4 right plus opens, 60, crest and 6 right plus and don't cut short 6 left minus..."

Maybe the prototype has a slipper clutch.
Another possibility is he's actually letting it out slower to let the revs catch up. It just looks fast on TV
Yet another possibility is that the 4 wheel drive has so much grip that he doesn't need to worry about smoothing out gear transitions
Yet another possibility could be that he does it to get a little loose on corner entry to get the car to rotate more.
