It only took 29 years but Lexus finally made a car that does not scream "Old Grandpa's Luxury Sedan (or Suv)" Ok the LFA does not count cause they were so few of those .
I saw one at the local International Auto Show and it is a Stunner .
I have 2 women friends that will not go to the auto show with me because they say "Everything looks the same " anymore . They are not even car people and they see it !!!!!!!!
LC500 is love at every sight

 

I like the LC, alot more than I thought I would, and the top gear review on it was spot on. That said they also made the isf and I doubt any grandpa liked the new hexagon grill on any model, I do though.

 

I've seen a couple of these and they are indeed sexy - unique and imposing. But, at $90k, why am I not buying a slightly used 911? Or even an F-Type?

 

I like it as an executive express for the daily commute, but it's hard for me to get excited about it as a sports car as it's just too heavy and underpowered, definitely more of a GT, like a higher quality Vantage. From what I've read and seen, it does well for what it is and Lexus dialed it in nicely. Good exhaust noise, decent power, 10-speed seems programmed well, good moves, but it just doesn't light my fire. I've sat in one at the dealer and it is very nice on the inside and outside.

If it lost several hundred lbs and they turbocharged that 5.0L V8 to something around 550-600hp, I bet it starts hitting the radar a lot to more to car enthusiasts in general.

 

Toyota/Lexus have been building much more exciting cars than Honda/Acura for the past 10+years. ISF, RCF, GSF ... even the "F-sport" trimmed IS350s/GS350s look exciting to me.

The LC really does look fantastic as a GT car.

 

Weighs as much as a got-dam Dodge Challenger... Not impressed. The sportiest Lexus ever got was the IS300. I'd love a turbo/manual-swapped wagon one of those...

 

It's a GT car.

The IS300 was a dog, I had one. It was only considered "sporty" as it had the Supra motor, but without the good bits (and the turbos).

The LC looks good, I'd guess Lexus are trying to sway more buyers over from the Mercedes coupes, similar to how they got previous S class buyers over to Lexus with the original LS.

 

Hey Saki Did not say it was a Good Value ! My main point was the Styling of almost everything is so generic that something like this blows the mind that an automaker would actually make something interesting for ONCE.
I am with you on the F type and watching those used values fall !

 

The LC500 is some car and I feel it's on equal or better footing than competition for the price. As much as I beat Jaguar's drum, I'd take a V8 from Toyota in heart beat. No puts more testing and engineering into a car than Toyota. I suspect this car will retain its value better than Jaguar or even a 911.

 

For me a 2-door "GT" shouldn't be 4300 lb... It's yet another oversized/overwrought/overweight luxury slab. But some will see 2 doors and think "ooh, sports car!" despite the mass.

IS300 is nearly 1000 lb. lighter than this LC monstrosity. Obviously it wasn't fast, anyway it wasn't the "Supra motor" that made it sporty. It was well-balanced, rwd/irs, and not obscenely overweight and pretty decent stock handling (I only ever went out in one as an instructor in the passenger seat at NHMS). I'd rather see more cars like that, personally, than more 2-door land yachts no matter how fast they are. Personal preference...
