Default Liter Challenge

Hm, i was reading sport rider today and it seems that for the K8 models the R1 came in last. Which is kind of hard for me to believe.

Anybody rode the K8 R1 yet with some personal opinions?

Cause i might be trading my gsxr 750 soon and the R1 was what i was considering

Thanks

There is no way in hell you can tell a performance difference between the big 4 liter bikes. They might have a little different feel, powerbands, etc., but liter bikes since about 03-04 have all been so fast no one without a road racing license can tell the difference.

Get the one you like the best.

You'll notice no difference in performance unless you are a professional racer

or get a ducati 1098 and rise above the numbers and put yourself into an experience and not just another bike.

an experience of huge maintenance costs...

the 1098 is beautiful though

I'd get the 1000RR in red or yellow

How in the world can you make this assumption? Look at some dyno graphs between an 03' litre bike and an 08'. at least 15hp gains all across the board. power gains like this and shaving 30lbs off the wet weight is HUGE! the handling of a new litre bike is the same if not better than 5 year old 600's. I've ridden 3 of the new litre bikes except the new r1 and the differences are very noticeable. Now go ride them, compare, and report back.

I totally disagree! Not saying that I (or anyone else here) can come close to using any of these bikes' performance, but you don't have to ride near the limits to feel the differences. From everything I've read, the R1 has STUPID gearing....have to slip the clutch to leave a stop, no torque down low, but it will do triple digits in first gear.

I remember having an R1 when I rode a friend's Gixxer 1000 - I could do power wheelies in 2nd from around 60ish, the G1000 would do them easier from 80ish. Irresponsible, yes, but huge fun! I wanted to trade right then and there, but knew that bike would be nothing but trouble. Oh yeah, I had a roadracing license at the time.

To the OP, I've owned 600's and 1000's, love them both for different reasons, but the Gixxer 750 is my favorite I4 I've ever ridden, and one of the best sport bikes ever IMO. I'd think twice about trading up, as it occupies a helluva nice sweet spot between 600 class handling and liter power.

From everything I've read (and checking them out in person), the CBR1000RR seems to be the smart choice for '08. It's a work of art! Yamaha and Suzuki have some catch-up to do.

Just buy what you like.....The R1 is a really good liter bike....but for me, I love my new toy:

or pick one of these:

Mine is the Red one.....

The 1098 is the best handling bike I've ever ridden.......not comparable to inlines...

You will sacrifice top end speed, but there's plenty of torque in all gears!!!!!!
