How in the world can you make this assumption? Look at some dyno graphs between an 03' litre bike and an 08'. at least 15hp gains all across the board. power gains like this and shaving 30lbs off the wet weight is HUGE! the handling of a new litre bike is the same if not better than 5 year old 600's. I've ridden 3 of the new litre bikes except the new r1 and the differences are very noticeable. Now go ride them, compare, and report back.
How in the world can I make this assumption? It's not an assumption, professional riders will all say they all go around a track so fast a non professional rider can't really tell the difference.

Second, what you said isn't even relevant. I said you can't tell the difference between the new liters. The mention of the older bikes was when they starting getting 'crazy' power to weight ratio wise. Yes you can tell a difference between 02 and 08 bikes, but he's choosing between new bikes.

Yes they all have different feel, different gearing, little power band differences, as I mentioned already, but they are all fast to the point it's just personal preference. They ALL run within a couple tenths of a second in the quarter mile, no one is going to convince me an average rider on a road course track is going to be way better on one than the others.

I totally disagree! Not saying that I (or anyone else here) can come close to using any of these bikes' performance, but you don't have to ride near the limits to feel the differences. From everything I've read, the R1 has STUPID gearing....have to slip the clutch to leave a stop, no torque down low, but it will do triple digits in first gear.

I remember having an R1 when I rode a friend's Gixxer 1000 - I could do power wheelies in 2nd from around 60ish, the G1000 would do them easier from 80ish. Irresponsible, yes, but huge fun! I wanted to trade right then and there, but knew that bike would be nothing but trouble. Oh yeah, I had a roadracing license at the time.

To the OP, I've owned 600's and 1000's, love them both for different reasons, but the Gixxer 750 is my favorite I4 I've ever ridden, and one of the best sport bikes ever IMO. I'd think twice about trading up, as it occupies a helluva nice sweet spot between 600 class handling and liter power.

From everything I've read (and checking them out in person), the CBR1000RR seems to be the smart choice for '08. It's a work of art! Yamaha and Suzuki have some catch-up to do.
I don't really include when you can do power wheelies as a big performance indicator. If you want to say you can go around willow 3 or 4 seconds faster on one than the other on the same tires consistently that might mean something to me.

You can change the gearing with a rear sprocket in 30 mins and 125$. The gearing isn't usually that big of a deal once you get the bike moving, I suppose besides doing power wheelies apparently.

I've ridden most of the 06 and 07 bikes and sure they all have a little different character, but the thought of avoiding one because a magazine said it was a tiny bit slower against the other insanely fast bikes when all that most people do is putter around the street or go within double the speed limits in local twisities is just ludicrous.
