Well considering you listed every vehicle that would be under 20k that I would recommend. I suggest a cbr600rr. RWD and capable of trackdays. Yea its not a car but your criteria is ridiculous. You eliminated every 2 seats rwd vehicle save for the Z which I wouldn't even consider for track duty. You're left with an evo/sti.

With your criteria, your options are WRX, Evo, 350z/370z, G35/G37. If the car is for nothing more than to have fun and track from time to time, I'd probably go with the Evo X GSR. Not sure if you can find one for $20k though.

You can take my STi for $20k.

I can only recommend two cars based on your picky criteria; AE86 or a 350Z.

Yeah good luck. I mean sure you can get a 240sx or AE86 but while both will be well under 20k you will probably spend near that for the swap and parts. Thats assuming you can find a clean one which is probably the hardest part.

Maybe a late 80's 3 series? No idea if they are easy to work on though.

Subaru RS is another option but again finding a clean one is though.

You could also look into a kit car of some sorts like the factory 5 cars. Not sure you would be under 20k at the end of the day but you wouldn't be spending it all up front.

Good luck man not sure why you don't want an S for this or why you asked this on an S2k forum and ruled out the S???

Was going to suggest this.
I've worked on my e46. I've done Alternator, Brake cylinder, Brake booster (and also took out DSC/ABS pump in process). Super easy to work on. Excellent online support.

Having said that, mine is a 330i. I cant imagine the M3's engine bay being that much more cramped (since they are both I6s).
However, the M3 does require more maintenance like preiodic valve adjustments for exmaple.

PS: Read title, and thought of Miata. I know its off your list but just had to mention it. However, with a budget of 20k, you could buy 5-10 Miatas lol

Also, what is your other car that you want to keep the miles low on??

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (any year). I know you rejected it, but the best option is an S2000.
