Default Is the M3 Conv. worth it?

Do you guys think the M3 Convertible is worth the extra money over the coupe? it's less rigid, weighs a few hundred pounds more, less storage space, but who could live without the wind in their hair?

I just saw my friends brand new black/black M3 SMG convertible. That was a sexy car. Definitely a car that I would like to drive around. Even though it is slower and less solid than the coupe, the convertible looked every bit as good (some cars do not survive the coupe to convertible conversion very well). I would take the convertible over the coupe. Just love the sun !

I would get the coupe w/ a sunroof, since the conv. conversion ruins the M3 IMO. Think about it...you're paying a premium price for lots of performance, which is then watered down by excess weight and lower rigidity. The conv. prob. isn't much if any faster than an S2000, and it def. won't handle anywhere near as well. I also don't particularly like the styling near as much w/ the top up.

A new top would also cost a LOT more than the S2000's.

How 'bout a M3 Coupe and a used, pristine Miata for those times when you want a real roadster?

Granted, it's less rigid and heavier than a coupe but that's why I got a Ci.

I went to the local BMW dealership yesterday. They were asking $73K for a convertible M3. I know you can probably get one at MSRP if you are willing to wait but holy s*#t!!! That's a lot of money.

Don't get me wrong - I love the M BMW's (well.. except for the fugly roadster - I don't care if it's fast - I wouldn't want to be seen driving that thing) but the bang for the buck quotient is rather weak, IMO.

wishing I had an extra $70K or so for a car...

"Ci" is just BMW's current designation for "Coupe"... and that sounds like a stealer, there are plenty of places to get new Cabs at MSRP, base price of the convertible starts at $53k I believe, coupes are at $45k.

If I'm not mistaken, the SMG Convertible is slower then a regular M3 convertible. The s2000 should be able to keep up or maybe even faster up to 100mph against the M3 SMG Convertible. The regular convertible should be faster then the s2000 though but it's the handling where the s2000 shines in. The M3 convertible handles great, but IMO the s2000 handles better. Nonetheless, the M3's are awesome cars.
