2) It is cheaper
At $50K+, the Corvette Z06 is not cheap.

Can you tell me your point? The LS7 in the CTS-V race car is making over 600HP at 5.7 liters and 8000rpm's. Yes a 5 liter DOHC V8 can make 500HP. yes an over head cam 3 liter can make over 900HP. And a supercharged 8 liter pushrod moter can make 6000+ HP.

He seems to forget that the Z28, which could be bought for ridiculously cheap...like 22K at the end of their production...were making 300rwhp stock. H/C and they can get up to 430rwhp no problem. Less than 30K involved and still naturally aspirated.

Good point FC. A lot of cars cost much more than they require to be made. After 50 years, does anyone really think a Chevy 350, carbeurated or otherwise, costs that much to throw in a car? It's also why mid-size SUVs cost nearly the same as full-size ones.

The LS1 and LS6 are no longer "chevy 350's" -- in fact they share just about no parts with the older standard small block.

The Camaro comment above is correct. You can put < 5 grand into an LS1 and push over 400 RWHP N/A reliably.

No they don't share any parts with the old carbuerated blocks you can buy, obviously because better newly-engineered parts and add-on systems (fuel injection, etc.) have come around because of technological advances.

But the LS1 and LS6 are definitely the result of 50 years of small block 350 real-world testing. They aren't "true" 350s no, but they are certainly related.
