correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't the MS6 using a turbocharged version of the 2.3l engine that's currently in the mazda3? from the link, it says 2.3l engine. the only 2.3l engine i can think of from mazda/ford is the one that's powering the more expensive mazda3 model. to me, that would just scream, "unproven motor".

Remember, Mazdaspeed cars can only be worked on at Mazdaspeed certified dealers. That brings the support network down a lot if you ever need work done. Technically, non-Mazdaspeed dealers aren't even allowed to touch a Mazdaspeed car.
According to Automotive News, that's not true.

Nuts and bolts: The MazdaSpeed6 will be built at the Hofu plant in Japan. Mazda plans to sell 12,000 units globally a year, with 5,000 of those units in the United States. Only the 300 certified MazdaSpeed dealers can sell the car, although service and warranty work can be done at any of 705 Mazda dealers. The vehicle began arriving in ports last month.
Also, regarding the AWD power distribution:
The MazdaSpeed6 all-wheel-drive system features "active torque split," which means engine power is sent to all wheels at all times. Mazda says that makes it different from many awd vehicles based on front-drive architecture, which use the rear wheels only when an assist is needed.

This is an interesting point because I got my info from talking to a Mazda sales manager. He stated his dealership doesn't sell or service Mazdaspeeds and his mechanics aren't certified to fix them. So maybe dealerships can work on Mazdaspeeds even if they're not certified. I do know from my history with my RX-7 that you don't want a Mazda mechanic touching your car if they don't know what they are doing though... I guess its not such a big deal if the dealership in your town is Mazdaspeed certified.

Regarding torque split, the MS6 puts at most 50% to the rear, with three settings avail, from what I understand. The LGT gets 55% to the rear by default, and it increases as needed up to 100%.
