Mazdaspeed MX-5

Doesn't make any sense to detune the MX5 Mazdaspeed... if anything, it should be tuned hotter. Maybe not in terms of absolute power, but the boost limits in the first two gears should be eliminated completely or close to it.
It's a more expensive car with less traction issues that doesn't way significantly more. There is no obvious reason to detune the engine, unless they just don't want it to do well...Also, take out the GT w/e package comes with nav and you're probably looking another $1000-1500 less. Easily thousands less than the S2000 which MSRPs at 34k. Death of the S2000? It'd have to be significantly better than the previous MS Miata.

Did anyone actually read the article?!?
The power loss can be chalked up to packaging issues as the MX-5 will require a smalled radiator and intercooler to make sure everything fits.

... people have been shoehorning in supercharged 5.0s into Miatas for years with out cooling problems. And with the amount of cross sectional area on the new Miata that can't be a problem. The only obvious reason is the bean counters won't loosen the purse strings for a front mount. Pretty stupid to detune the power below your direct competition... unless they're gonna price it around 28,000 and compete on cost with the GXP.

You can get a new S2000 for $30k though. Not sure you'll be able to get a discount like that on the new Turbo MX-5.
Too bad they are detuning it as it needs all 263hp to compete with the Solstice GXP, Sky Redline, and S2000.
