Rust problems are the least of Mitsu's problems. The shitty clutch is more important.

I'm not so sure about the clutch. I've got 7000 miles with a few high rpm launches and no problems. Scot has like 16 launchs and no problems. I think the clutch issue is blown out of proportion thanks to these forums. Any clutch will will burn up when you combine:

1.) clutch restrictor that keeps the clutch from fully engaging for a split second (keeps shock off of the tranny)
2.) 6000+ rpm launch
3.) tall 1st gear (40 mph in first)
4.) AWD
5.) tire width of 235 that are nearly R rated

No, the big problem is the paint.

Most clutches that burn up prematurely are due to crappy, dumbass drivers.

Who the hell takes off the bumper assembly to check for that anyway? I guess it would just go unnoticed for most people.

STUPID.

Thats bare metal. Bare metal rusts. I'm not in the least bit shocked that there is rust in the spots shown in that pic.

I thought it was a legitimate problem (for example, rust forming around the wheel wells, wrecking the paint...

You take steel, expose it to the elements, and it oxidizes. That's on a part that's not even exposed so what's the big deal with just sanding the rust off, then paint over the bare metal, put the bumper back on.

Holy crap, that would solve the problem Batman!
