Eclipse should have been a coupe on a Lancer awd chassis.

I will never understand why they didn't keep it AWD or even better Rear-Wheel-Drive keep in mind this is just my opinion.

I can't ever tell if the most recent iteration of the Eclipse is going forwards, or backwards! Not my cup of tea. On another note, what vehicle's besides the Evo and Lancer does Mitsu actually make? I'd driven by a Satu-bishi dealer the other day, and the lot was completely full of a very small little hatch/suv (thing).

I remember the day's of the 90's Diamante sedan/wagon, and the Galant. Always thought they were solid.

The only Mitsubishis I ever owned (3 Starions), was the best Mitsubishi. The last RWD sports car from them I believe. (3000GT was fwd or AWD VR4) They should bring back the Starion!!!! Ashame that was a reliability nightmare. With their N/A FWD for the 00+ Eclipses, they lost many enthusiasts, although I knew a guy with a supercharger on his 3G Eclipse, and it was a rolling beast. I will say though, the 2000-2005 Eclipse is a very reliable car. Buddy of mine has an 03 as his daily beater and it has 165k miles on it, no problems. A newer, low mileage GT I'd take as a daily winter beater to replace my 06 Rabbit though. Lots of power, and good in snow.

Speak of the devil. I was joking with one of the other techs at work today about this thread, and lo and behold look what rolled up on the wrecker. It was like a 90's flashback. Its the shitsubishi's bastard cousin. Stealth power.

That pic is of my 88 that I restored with original 83 hood, custom wheels, rebuilt engine, big turbo, paint, the works. That thing was a highway monster. But like you said, the electrical system failed, car caught fire, I put it out before any major damage, sold it, lost a ton of money, and my fixing old cars hobby came to an abrupt end, and I eventually sold them all. Love and miss my Starions though.

Mitsubishi is focusing more on electric cars for the future. Killed the Evo 10 and now this.

Owned a 1G GSX, 2G GSX and a GVR4. All great cars in their own right. It's what we had before the Evos came stateside. Once that happened there was no point in the Eclipse line. If they actually threw the proper engine in that vehicle I am betting that it would've still had a following.
