Default My contribution to help revive the auto ind.

Last night while surfing Miata.net, I learned that Mazda just unveiled $5000 rebates on remaining '08 Miatas. I've been tire-kicking '06's waiting for the right deal (and also for my '99 to sell). Well, they were already selling for around invoice +/-, and adding the rebate made it too tempting to resist.

I went to Mazda's website last night, and sent requests for quotes for every suitable model within 250 miles. I ended up w/ a GT in True Red/Black, w/ Suspension and Premium #2 Packages. Listed for around $27,300, got it for $19,995 (yes, I realize I could have bought 2 running or 3 non-running FD's for that much )- complete w/ all kinds of goodies like heated leather seats, keyless ignition (just like the M3 and Vette), a Bose stereo that actually sounds decent, etc.

My Miata got trashed in Austin's possibly worst hailstorm ever last Wed., and hopefully the damage will be high enough to get them to total it. I plan to keep it relatively stock as long as I have the 10AE, then use some of the proceeds from it to start some light mods (rollbar, coilovers, etc.)

congrats! Beautiful color, best one for the Miata.

You're the only person that makes my car flipping disease seem normal

The miata is a bargain for the price, great car.

I see you have an attachment for the Miata like I do for the Boxster S

Did you consider a used AP2 at that price point?

Yes, but I can't really sell it until I get my insurance settlement squared away.

Not very seriously, as sacrilegious as that may sound on an S2000 forum. Miata is better handling (after coilovers, too soft stock) more comfortable, better brakes, no worries about stolen seats, and cheaper ins./operating costs. Oh yeah, the biggie is that you can easily bolt in a rollbar w/o tearing up the interior. I've also had a couple of S2000's (which I couldn't say about any other single model until this purchase), and like to experience variety in switching cars.

I/H/E time? I hear you about S2000's Chris, although both mine has been stock, I get ready for a change. Today on my drive, my favorite aspect was just the fact that its a convertible.

I just can't stand the SUV like wheel gap on stock miatas lol. You can literally put a fist in there. Anyway, great car/deal, and congrats on the purchase.

As I've previously stated, the Miata is a great blank canvas to build upon. The suspension design, chassis balance are great, but the damping, spring rates, and ride height leave a lot to be desired. Coilovers will take care of that as soon as I get rid of my '99.
