I actually came from a galaxy grey 2006 mx5 to an s2000.
Great car but lacking in the power and suspension department. Also the bose isn't too great for a bose system.
I do miss the light agile feel it had and the amazing soft top.

If so, tell us what your driving experiences with the handling with both

This is my favorite part about the Miata, they are light and feel like a go-kart in terms of tossibility compared to the S2000.

If that's your S2k in your sig, did you put a suspension on the Miata like you did the S2k?

I had the Eibach springs on my car. From the factory NC's suspension is a bit soft. The eibach springs took care of that. It didn't handle as well as the s2000 even after that but close. A lot due to skinnier tires and the s2000 is pretty stout from the factory.
Now the NC is only 300 lbs less than the s2000.... but man could you feel it. It was like driving a toy.
I will say this. On a back road you can have every bit of fun in an NC as the s2000 gives you.
Daily driving also seemed easier than the S. I know the torque numbers are just below an S. But with the weight and curve the mx5 can keep up with traffic without having to shift at 5k.
Whats really enjoyable about the MX-5.... is that you can feel the limits way better than the S..... even if the limits are less. The S is a bit numb in comparison.
The tranny is great in the mx-5... but absolutely perfect in the S. The exhaust note on the mx-5 is a bit weak and buzzing from the factory.
The mx-5 engine I did not care for. It ran out of breath early and taking it up to redline actually felt very hard on the engine. I actually ended up having engine failure and returned the car under the lemon law about 6 months after ownership.
That being said I could and will never sell the S.
On final note there is a huge age difference between s2000 and mx-5 owners. It was also frustrating that at the time I was the only mx-5 owner that wanted to mod his car.
I'm 25 and seem to fit in the middle of the S age group.
I'm pretty sure the average age of mx-5 owners was 50+
. I seemed to relate more to the s2000 owners.
We were parked right next to a new one the other day - same color, and I'm assuming close to the same year (same wheels, I noticed how they looked like my AP2V2's).
I hadn't really looked closely at the late[r] models - I've got to say it's really "beefy". It looks much bigger even though I realize any size increase is very small across model years. The revised fender arches and interior is really outstanding!

Chris, maybe you missed my question earlier but do you plan to go with intake/headers/and exhaust on your new toy? I think the '08 is a better buy than '06, as you can "legally" go with MS-R modifications in autocross since they were offered from the factory during those years.
So far, a rollbar and coilovers are first on the list, possibly followed by sways. I have absolutely no doubt it will outhandle an S2000 after that.
I plan to do a catback exhaust and cold air intake, too, possibly followed by a midpipe (w/ cat) - not sure about headers.
I may buy some MS-R parts, but not worried about doing a CS prep since my main thing is DE's, not auto-x.
I didn't intend this to be a comparison thread to the S2000. I might have gotten an S2000 instead if I only had one fun car, I wanted it to be a convertible, and tracking wasn't as important to me....but the M3 handles the need for raw power quite well.
